Re: POST YOUR BLACK 3RD GENS
Well, after a few years of sitting around while life and other projects took off, I got TTOP out this spring (after a winter motor freshen) and hit up a couple of shows and random events. Here are a few.
1st wash in almost 5yrs

Re: POST YOUR BLACK 3RD GENS
Homewrecker, Nice !!! Any more info, engine, times, etc... Nice Job !!!
KentuckyKitt, Nice bat mobile !!!
Jk.... On a little side note about these black third gens....
People's input is welcome....
The first few years of thirdgens, the paint was single stage...
Then GM began using base / clear.... Correct?
Can anyone of you (in person) look at a car and say,"yeah, that is single stage / or BC / CC"?
I've been trying to find a "visual" difference that denotes the two...
Things I've heard...
Single stage looks like black water, while BC/CC looks like black water behind glass (or CC in this case)...
Some people have described the BC/CC looks "plastic" compared to the Single Stage...
From pictures (cuz I've not had 2 samples in real life to look at with my eyes), it seems that single stage in many instances (seems void of a lot of dazzle), where the BC/CC dazzles (for lack of a better word), more than Single Stage...
Not that you can't get a nice reflection in a single stage, but I believe the BC/CC adds more dazzle due to the coat of clear / different light refraction than single stage...
A few examples...
KentuckyKitt's car...
He used single stage paint... and in this picture (not always the case) the car seems VERY black, considering the surroundings...
Here is another pic of KentuckyKitt's car (which he didn't post, but he sent me) of his car outside.... excellent reflection, but but not blinding shine like seen in some BC/CC cars...
Here is a Corvette, BC/CC and it seems like the reflected light dazzles more....
I know these are a bit of extreme examples....
I seem to like the effect of the single stage better than BC/CC....
I see more of the shape of the car in single stage, because the BC/CC seems to reflect / refract more light.... the shine hides (or the over accentuated shine) makes the shape of the car (and the actual black color) harder to see...
What is your understanding / visual difference of single stage vs BC/CC?
Or have I been in the garage too long with the engine running ?!?!?!?
Thanks!
Rafael

[QUOTE=Homewrecker;6102437]
Homewreker's & KentuckyKitt's pics for some reason made me think of this...
I am going to "guess" that homewrecker's paint is BC/CC...
And the reason why is because of his first picture...
I looked at the nose of the car, and due to all the reflections thought, "that's not a stock nose".... It looked REALLY different...
But then after seeing his 2nd picture (not so much light reflected), I see it is a stock shape nose, that looks like it had the fog light openings filled in...
Again, my theory of it being harder to see the lines / shape of the car with BC/CC.....
Did this happen to anyone else ???

Homewreker's has a 1piece fiberglass frontend, not much factory there. To me, almost looks like it is still just the jellcoat and not even painted yet?

My seemingly lifelong project. Mildly built TPI 350 and T56 trans. Still needs paint and bodywork, but the car is 100% free of rust in and out. Color scheme will stay the same.

[QUOTE=TTOP350;6103639]The only thing steel on my car is the rear quarters and roof. Everything is fiberglass pieces made by Glasstech. The car actually has been several colors before being painted black.

Re: POST YOUR BLACK 3RD GENS
Hello. New to the Forum last week when I was about to pull the trigger on a third Gen. I inquired about a few things and got some reassurance. Needless to say after dealing with the owner for over 4 months and finally able to pry it from his grasp, I got a trailer on a snowy day and brought it home this afternoon.
'87 IROC, 5.7 t-tops, only 21,000 km. Local car and got complete history and documentation with it. All original except for the lowering kit. Have the original springs and stock wheels. Sorry for the pics, I did the best I could given the snow. Needs a good clean up and some better pics.

Hey chazman, in one of your pics the car is so clean and the area around it as well I thought for a second it was a dicast model cause it was too perfect. Great looking car.
