Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
I've searched and searched and can't find photos of what I actually have to do to the bolt holes. The car is a 92 and had 906 vortec heads on it. I'm going with older pre 86 heads now.
Anyone have any photos I what I need to do to the bolt holes to make these work? I've seen a lot of people talking about it but don't see many photos or good info on it.

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
I'm not ordering a part when I can just modify this one... That's pointless. My car had vortec heads so the base plate would be a aftermarket vortec base correct? So is this any different to modify?

Like I said, I'm not interested in that option. I want to just modify this one and not be waiting on shipping putting money out and trying to sell this one. Not interested at all

What exactly do you want photos of? I have an original base and a vortec base and can take photos of whatever you need.

Are they different in any way?
Have you modified it to work with older heads? I'm trying to bolt 86 and back heads to it

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
As said above, sell the vortec or trade it for a Edelbrock/accell/tpis baseplate.
Step 1 is to see if the intake even fits correctly between the heads while sitting on the motor, due to the taller ports.
Old holes are vortec and new are the traditional location.
TBI intake but the same goes

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
I believe I have the vortec base because my heads I just pulled off say 906 on them. which is a vortec casting number and the previous owner said they swapped in a 96 vortec 350. So that's what I'm going off of.
Can you get any of those bases new still? Can I still use this vortec one or no? Looks like a lot more drilling then I was thinking.

You can still get the Edelbrock intake new, the others I don't think so.
It will be milling, drilling and cussing to make the vortec fit old heads correctly

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
Maybe just bolting a stealth ram on would solve my problems lol. Looks like that's about $650 for the intake and fuel rails. Don't think I need anything else? Might just have to go that way..

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
That would be a better choice. (stealth ram)
What early heads are you putting on?
Stock intake gasket on a vortec head. Soo you can see how bad the mismatch is.

Am I right with that's all I would need to bolt it on?
Some aluminum dart heads.
Installing a xfi268 cam also and a FTI stall

That gasket line up doesn't look great at all..

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
This may have already been covered, but from reading, here's my 2 cents.
If you're not running vortec heads, it's not worth using the vortec base. Too much effort. PLUS....you can get a pretty penny for it.
Pretty sure the TPIS base was made by Edelbrock. I don't think either is made anymore. Summit and Jegs BOTH list the Edelbrock 3860 and 3861 as unavailable. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to find one used though. TONS of early and late style stock manifolds out there.
Last, with those heads, the Stealthram would probably be the best performing option. It's pretty much bolt on, but remember, NOTHING....is truly bolt on. Everything requires a shimmy or a jiggle here and there, mixed with a few choice words every now and then!!!! That being said, yeah, it's a pretty straight forward bolt on.

Are the ports gonna Line up correctly with the stealth Ram since its drilled for both I don't know if the ports are old style or vortec? Or am I reading this wrong

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
Where are you seeing that it's drilled for both?
Standard Stealth Ram:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wnd-7540/overview/
Vortec Stealth Ram:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/wnd-7542p/overview/
You can see the differences between the bolt holes in the pictures
The one that I know that has mounting bosses that need to be drilled to bolt to Vortec heads is the Speedway one.

I read something that said it was drilled for both maybe I miss understood and it just means earlier and later style sbc heads? Not vortec ports?

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
I believe that's what it meant. I'll probably order a stealth ram then to save me any gasket or port lining up issues and all the hassle of extra drilling
I'll sell all my vortec stuff but no one seems to want tpi or third gen stuff in my area

Funny thing about the internet, everyone knows everyone. Do some shady stuff, people are going to bring it up. I believe you've still got time to make this right.
Just to clear the air, return the engine and other stuff you stole from him. Mic dropped.

beyond the internet being a vast place, you've managed to steal from a pretty high profile guy, with some very high profile friends. the lawsuit you're about to see will ruin your local reputation, but the impact on the internet is extremely far reaching.

Oh do please enlighten us then. Go ahead, I've got all day to hear your side of the story. Who are you, by the way? With only two posts, and having joined what looks like today, you appear to be a nobody, whereas myself and the my friends are well fairly well known.

David, you're not fooling anyone but yourself by creating a new profile to defend yourself. The reality is that you took my property and converted it to your own use. This is known as theft by conversion. I've given you ample opportunity to make it right. And you decided that you don't want to.
Getting to your other statement about jail, yes I was falsely arrested for a crime I didn't commit. Feel free to look it up its a matter of public record. All charges against me were dropped.
I'm not going to get into an Internet pissing contest with you, I don't have time for that.
Sincerely,
The one guy you shouldn't have messed with.

Re: Need photos of how to modify base plate for early heads
Yes please enlighten us. I have nothing better to do than wait. It won't be hard for me to prove the cylinder heads he is bolting, or has bolted to his engine are mine. Don't worry I'll wait for you to explain. How about you let him fight his own battles then. Don't forget a shop owner told him to come get his car instead of finishing the work. Maybe because I showed him pictures of my stolen motor he confirmed it was the same one that David brought to him to take my cylinder heads off of to install on his engine. Oh boo hoo now he has to buy a new TPI base because the Vortec base don't fit. Oops too hard to find the base, so he had to buy a Weiand/Holley Stealth Ram. Somehow someone has it twisted. I'm done playing games.
David lied to the mediator and Judge about losing his job, about his 14 Camaro having been repoed, and about his 15 Sierra getting repoed.
Claiming that his Dad (whom isn't a stupid individual) scrapped a running 01 Z28 (yes it needed a hood and a fender) as well as my engine, transmission, Holley Stand Alone, new Accessory Drive, and my engine hoist. I don't believe that for a minute. Sold the items, certainly, not scrapped.

Wait. David's daddy has to come to his defense like he tried in court. Since David lost credibility with a lot of people I'm sure he will more than satisfy us all with the truth and substantial proof. So lets go big mouth and let's here it. Otherwise make right with Kevin

Yep if he needed help I'm sure his dad would be there for him. Because he ain't no thief. But his father just the told me. If anyone wants some to discuss it he will be on madoungh Dr in Atlanta at 100 tomorrow afternoon and if any of ya big mouths want to discuss it. Said you can't miss him in a Chevy duramax says Griffin on side. ;*)
