Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Finally getting around to posting pics of mine. Installed 2 years ago; yes, I know there are a lot of clamps and it's not mandrel bent, but I didn't have a welder, and it went together really quickly this way. That, and it's just an LG4, so I didn't see the need for mandrel bends.
Consists of Hedman longtubes, straight pipes with an H-pipe under the rear seats. After the trans, both pipes follow the factory route. It's a tight fit, but it works, and I have about 4 inches of ground clearance at the lowest point (under the cross-member).

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Hey guys I have a awesome 87 firebird with a sick sbc 350 in it pushing 400+ HP and I'm trying to find an awesome exhaust setup right now I have headers to a y pipe cat delete and a 80 series crossflow flowmaster it's somewhat mild, I want it to sound awesome and It doesn't I have a cam I want to show off to. I'm sure of the idea of true duals, I like the idea of side exit tip exhaust but I want it to sound really mean and really accentuate the cam. any ideas? please let me know!

I like the idea what type of muffler, crossflow? I want it loud but not obnoxious. is your sound mild or aggressive?

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Looking good Matt, are those stainless , if not you gonna coat them? And who's engine plate?
#513
Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
The engine plate is from ICT Billet, for lsx in thirdgen. i've trimmed it up a bit. so far i'm very happy with their products and service. it can be had here:
http://www.ictbillet.com/ls-front-en...x-ls1-808.html
The headers are mild steel. I'm having a friend do the final welding on them. he is going to TIG them for me. I planned to MIG them, but he offered, so i figure that's a good deal, lol. i will have them coated locally so they don't rust, and i can get some cooler under hood temperatures.

Notice the holes in the battery trays on either side?(just In case your serious) He's not gonna leave open headers under the hood. Looks like he plans to route the exhaust down and through this area.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Does anyone have any other options with pics to show my exhaust guy. I am wanting true duals from the shorty Flow Tech headers back. I can dump factory style or behind rear wheels 70's style. Thanks

We ran 3" duals on mine this last go around with 4" Magnaflow Bullets. It gets pretty loud..
Ground clearance is no worse than before seeing that they're just as low as my subframe connectors. The angled dumps point twards the rear tires and blow tire smoke outward.
I'll upload a video later of what it sounds like.

91ls1t56.....did you make your own crossmember for the spohn mount? looks like it gained a lot of clearance. nice work

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Yes I did make that crossmember. Exhaust clearance was the reason for the build. I purchased a bunch of junk from spohn and had to make my piece work with that garbage. Thanks for the complement.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
This is the Hooker Blackheart System on my car. The complete system LS headers to dual exhaust.
Specs of car configuration.
CPP LS3, Tremec T-56 Super magnum, Spohn chrome-moly K-member for SBC, Trans Dapt LSX conversion brackets, Moroso solid motor mount "foot" bolted to the K-member. The Trans Dapt brackets have a poly mount that will be used as the intermediate.
The engine sits in the stock SBC location with these mounts and allows the passengers header to clear the rear control arm mount on the Spohn K-member.
Absolutely no modifications were done to the exhaust or the Blackheart transmission crossmember. All of the exhaust cleared crossmember and over the axle area.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
gixxer92, That is an excellent exhaust system build. I like the muffler install. Where did you get the mandrel bent pipes that seem to lay right in place? How much fab was needed on the system?
Willie's system, the serious looking dual 3" system from Nelson Supercars, and yours. The three best systems I've seen so far installed on a 3rd gen. Yours has the advantage of more balanced lengths from side to side, due to the long tube headers. I'll be starting work on my dual 2.5" system soon. I aim to make it as clean as yours and Willie's.
EDIT: Just read more carefully. Hooker makes a dual exhaust system for the 3rd gen. Awesome!

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
It's about time someone made this for our cars.
It'll be my approach however I'll adapt the mid/back portion to my headers and trans crossmember.
EDIT: I see that you saw!

I see no clearance issues anywhere that would cause the exhaust to heit the floor boards.
I believe with modification you could put the system on a SBC, modification to the "y" pipe will be needed.
My headers were SS304 and the exhaust was SS409. I had the headers coated locally as there was no option a month ago to buy them coated already.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Installing this system on an SBC 3rd gen would be easy. Dyno Don's dual cat collector pipes and a few feet of 2.5" with a couple of mandrel bends.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
I've done it to my 83 , I got hooker headers, 3"-2 and 1-2" collectors , an I had to just run each pipe , side by side, down the passenger side, into a x pipe that's about right under the passengers ***, then run side by side through the factory exhaust route, up over the axle, then splits and has 2 12" glass ppacks, then about 1' of pipe coming off them cut at a 45 , an u will have one hell of a nasty sounding exhaust! . my motor is not stock, but I've heard it on factory 305 and 350's an still its sweet . I ended up installing cutouts right after the x-pipe, the passengers side was simple, on the drivers side I had to find a route my 2-1,2 inch pipe could fit, an come out before the rear tires. Took a bit of bends and trial and errors, at the end its so worth it, plus I have a 1 off exhaust, true dual on a 3rd gen! With cutouts that exit at a 45 before the rear tires, and dual pipes out the back with glass packs and cut at a 45 also - just angle of it is different. It took a summit exhaust 2 and 1-2" universal build ur own kits, a summit x pipe, a 4' stick of straight pipe, 2 exhaust collectors, 2 12" glass packs, and hangers an clamps. I couldn't be happier! . an now I see on the internet, some company has a exhaust kit for 3rd gens that's true dual, an run side by side down the original exhaust route, I should have patented that **** when we made mine! Lol

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
i have shorty hookerr headers to 2.5 exhaust pipe to 3 inch dynomax bullets. the mini style which are 9 inch long. if im cruisng around 55-60 at 2500 rpm (turbo 350 trans) I get what sounds like a buh buh lean surge out exhaust. the car isn't running lean, plugs are a touch black but that's how I have it set. what would cause that noise? mufflers being so small and dumped under car with turndowns toward sides of car? it annoys the **** out of me but car runs fine. any ideas?

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
I also have an annoying drone from my temporary exhaust, which is dual 2.5" from my shorty 1 3/4 SLPs, through two cheapo bullets. I think it's mostly because the exhaust is dumping under the car, right at the back end of the trans, causing so much interior resonance. Also, the short pipe length isn't ideal for acoustics.
I have all the materials to finish a dual 2.5" out over the axle via the stock routing. I plan to get it done right away when I get the car back out of winter storage next spring. I'm just really tired of not being able to hear the 1,500watt stereo over the exhaust without cranking all the way up.
The mufflers for the finished exhaust are 3" Classic Chambered Powersticks. It will probably sound more aggressive than it does with the bullets. It just wont be so loud in the car. Having the full exhaust back on will also correct the acoustics to cure the drone. I'm planning to build a resonation chamber to help with top end power, since I plan on switching to a tunnel ram intake. If not the chamber, I would install an X-pipe.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
So I ended in a conversation about dual exhaust on a third gen. The one dude liked my setup and mentioned it to another person that commented, "so what he's probably got 2 feet of pipe and turndowns". I said oh no, I've got 2 pipes over the axle and out the rear. The non believer said that there is no way to do that and maintain good ground clearance. I did not have pics with me, but it left me wondering what kind of clearance do you guys with the new blackhart system end up with compared to what I have.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
IMHO, there is no ground clearance lost whatsoever I think if anything you might have gained a quarter inch based on the fact that the diameter of the pipes isn't as big as what the single 3" cat back is..

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
What is the best way to run a dual exhaust on a 92 RS? Will it end up scraping the road? I have Hedman Headers and 2 cherry bomb glass packs that I just got. Just wondering how low the drivers side would be and what the best routing is.

Re: Third Gen Dual Exhaust Picture Collection
Just finished it now with the exhaust. Polished to a chrome ish finish. All thats left now is do is the final mount on.
It now looks like this, headers to weld ons. All stainless, no cat and no cut-out. Just a fully fledge exhaust system.
Here are some pictures of it during fabricating. This still had the dull finish and now it has a full chrome like finish.
NOTE: They look lower then they really are. Thats because at this point i was having them rest on wood.
As you can see its a full 2.5 inch true dual system.
I'll make some pictures of it when its mounted. It all fits perfectly i must say. Took about two weeks of work.
