Need experienced input on a crate engine for a 250 shot cheater system.
I'm going to first play with a 150 shot system on my stock 350 TPI. But I plan to have a second mill ready by next year for some more serious thrills. I keep hearing things like ZZ4 and LT1 etc.. What I'll be after is a direct bolt-in crate engine with forged guts and heads that'll flow better than stock.
It would still have to be comfortably streetable and work with the existing electronics (still take the wife out on dates ya know). Make lots of naturally aspirated torque in the 2000-5000 RPM range (has a 3.42 diff. ratio now) and really be complimented by a 250 shot via a direct port "cheater" system.
Someone on this board has got to be using what I'm looking for. I'd really appreciate some experienced discussion about this plan.
Thanks.

Plan on building your own motor, with forged pistons
cause none of the popular "crate motors" come with 'em.
You also better plan on running high octane racing gas
if you plan on a true 250hp NOS shot.
Around 150 to 175 hp shot makes a usable fast/safe street shot.
Save the ***** out 250 hp shot for the track where you can fill up with 114 octane gas to avoid detonation.
Either that or order a truck load of "crate motors"
All the popular ones I know of come with cast or hypereutectics
The forged pistons can handle a lot more punishment
if you make a tuning mistake and detonate on a run.
Some kind of an ignition retard system will help too.

F-Bird,
Thanks for the response. I'm surprised to learn that the crate motors don't have forged pistons. However I'm hard-headed, so I'm going to press on with this idea at least until I see a roadblock. Any idea which have 4- bolt mains? That's good advice about a det. sensor too, I know the 305 has one stock, I'll go have a look at my 350. What are your thoughts on fuel pressure and injector size? Will one pressure (and one injector size) work okay with the engine juiced and not juiced? Thanks again.

Glad to hear about the ZZ4 being four bolt. Since I'll have to put forged pistons in it maybe I can find a used one. Can I buy a bare block?
This summer I plan to have a 150 shot dry system. But the bigger plan is for direct port (wet) hopefully at 250hp flow NOS.
