I'm just annoyed that the engine is more capable than the car and I just had the idea of a cage.

Re: Thirdgen vs other race car platform
This is a weird thread and I'm scratching my head trying to figure out what is going on here. Let me get this straight....
Two guys that built their own cars are arguing that it is the car's fault for not being fast and they are unhappy about it. And they are making that argument with two other 3rd gen owners that have fast cars.
Doesn't that seem idiotic?

my experience showed me that when you go from legal 10's/11's to 9's, the cost of everything starts to go up exponentially. if you drew it as a line on a board, it would be somewhat flat through 12s-11s-10s- and then start going up at a 45 degree angle when you get to 9s. 8s and faster it goes vertical. lol a 7 second thirdgen would be very expensive, while a gtr would be off the scale. to go from 9's to 7's, you pretty much gut the car and start over.
i have wanted to see streetlethal run his car and produce a slip since the 9 sec. 305 thread was started. i do not think that car would go 9's because even if he could get the needed power out of it i dont believe the rest of the car would allow it to be that quick. however, i really did want to see what the car ran/runs because it is an interesting combination. i think if he ran it he would be a bit more understanding of the et difficulty scale.
joe's car has the pieces under the hood for 9's but i think his converter will probably be too tight and he has a 10 bolt in it which most likely wouldnt survive 1.3 60's very long if ever. not getting into the suspension stuff or safety equipment. but, again, i would like to see what it ran anyways just for curiosity's sake.

Your spot on about my car. The converter is probably loose enough though, it's even a little too loose for my liking but the10 bolt even built will probably explode on a 9 second pass. Aluminum 1le driveshaft, th30 all poor choices for anything faster than 11s.
I'll run the car with street tires this year, and over the winter I think I'm gonna do a 4l80e and 9". I can control the shift points with the PCM, and concentrate on keeping the car straight.
And of course a roll bar. I was sitting in it today trying to figure out where the side bar would go. I wish you folks we're local so I could sit in your cars. Im nervous that the side bar will be against my leg the whole time.
Then a three Rivers stel driveshaft, and some sticky tires should at least make it a reliable 10 second car.
I think I need bigger injectors too. I have enough fuel pump for 1000hp but the 42s are probably done at 600 fwhp. I should probably keep the timing low until I get a baseline .

Don't need to wait for this car. Start posting up your time slips from previous cars. We need the participation in the 1/4 mile thread.

Re: Thirdgen vs other race car platform
Dig, there really is no question, it will go nines. Some dude I knew ran an '87 GN with smaller heads and less cylinders besting mid nines with only a 2800 stall speed PTC, 200R4 at 3500 pounds, and there is nothing special about the LC2 engine or Grand National whatsoever, RPM was under 6000-RPM. Only thing stopping me is the crank, rods and pistons. Stock rear is very easy to beef up for what I'm looking to do with it, and the suspension parts are already there. Most don't appreciate the time and effort put into it because I have such limited time, all I do is work, that's kind of why I slowed down. Engine is done though, threw up a quick vid of it on the street, so I am way ahead of most of the builds in this section. Think I'm wasting my time worrying about NA numbers for the 305, but wanted to put that argument to rest, so I was tuning for that very thing. Car is together for the most part though, exhaust is on and it sounds absolutely insane with this camshaft and Flowmaster. RBob has been helping me with an issue, and this weekend the weather is fantastic to resolve it, but once again I just got home from work and I am exhausted...
