only in the engine bay and near the passenger floor board, otherwise I leave it unwrapped/coated so it can dissipate as much heat energy as possible

My turbo is where the ac compressor would be on a serp car. My downpipe basically runs along the outboard side of the valvecover then turns down.

I'm concerned about the heat (only being 1/2-3/4" away) both burning the paint off the valve cover, and perhaps even the hood. I have a blanket for the T76 itself.

In this case would you still just wrap the part that snakes under the toe kick ?

It depends how much heat you want to keep out of the engine bay, I would wrap it all the way to the fire wall in your case if your worried about melting/burning paint.

I had one layer of wrap ony DP, and loomed wires sitting 1" away, the loom may have melting a bit but it was pretty much OK.

I would wrap like said above. Also buy DEI Titanium wrap. Its amazing to work with and stays together and keeps colour. I used ebay stuff before and it looks like crap about a couple heat cycles.

Re: Wrap/insulate downpipe?

My engine bay is mostly made up of heat insulating material, wraps and shields. I try to keep as much out as possible. Everything is wrapped down to starter. Never melted valvecover paints, but did melt the strut tower paint and shock cap cover lol. Never had a painted hood so cant comment on that but it is a concern of mine

Re: Wrap/insulate downpipe?

Wrap it all with DEI titanium.. looks good. Keeps the hot stuff hot and cold stuff cold... Edit: I may have used the cheaper wrap from race parts solutions.. 1200 degree stuff.

Re: Wrap/insulate downpipe?

Mine is dei titanium as well. Best stuff i tried. Less flakey and itchy. Other stuff really gets in your skin and is itchy no matter what you do. Dei titanium for some reason does not get as itchy.

People say your suppose to soak the wrap in water first then wrap. I however never did that. I find it easy to work dry so i have always done it that way.
