finally out of training thats lasted a year and im on a favorable schedule.
along with Mark im in the market for a turbo. ive been looking at the fleabay gt35 special(lol). found mostly T3's with larger comp wheels like this one....

was looking for T4 frames but they have the small 57mm wheel. i like the 62mm wheel, seems perfect for my little 3.4. anybody have good links?

its about time :P
engine mods?
stock heads cam = hybrid 50mm
stockheads / 252 or better cam = 50/57mm
ported heads/ 260+ cam = 57 to 67mm
depending on the turbo hotside will also dictate turbo sizing
for most built v6's a turbo on the 60-61mm range is plenty
cx racing offers the gt3582 with a t4 ptrim wheel in either .68 or an .84 housing if u really want the t4 turbine go with the .68
as fasteddi is doing the 57mm t3 hybrid turbo coupled with the t67 compressor will make one very killer turbo for a worked over v6

yeah dude i been busy for the last year lol. i get 3 day weekends so ill have way more time than before.
the engine:
ARI 3.4
hyper pistons, rings were loosened up for boost, top ring is plasma-moly
arp hardware for the bottom end
heads are ported, gasket matched, bowls blended, valve guides slimmed down, still have the vane but much smaller
k-motion valve springs, iirc K-700's
crane chromoly retainers and locks, viton seals
trick flow 6.250" chromoly pushrods
crane solid cam, howards solid lifters

id love to buy the better part. problem is, budget. i dont care if it breaks, engine blows, etc. the engine and car have been sitting for the last 6 years, id rather break it than have it sit collecting dust. i want this piece on the road within the next year, tops.

that cam is going to want a serious top end turbo
the turbo i posted is not a good choice by itself the hotside has a .48 housing, though realistically in the picture it apears to be a .63
but the turbine wheel itself is tiny and a mismatch
for fasteddi he already has the 57mm unit with the much better hotside so if he gets that turbo and swaps the coldside onto his 57mm unit it makes a very kickass turbo
the way they offer that turbo (66mm) its aimed more at the 4cyl ppl to get that massive compressor spinning with not much lag
for an out of the box turbo for u i recomend the 57mm unit or the gt3583
the gt3582 would be my first choice
if u can pick up a t3 50 trim out of the junkyard with a 5 bolt turbine and a .63 or 8x housing for cheap i would get that then buy the 66 and swap the wheels

actually i take that back knowing the actualy size of the v band flange i was able to calculate the actual size of the turbine wheel from the picture, and it apears its the same size as the 57mm turbos turbine so if it is infact a .48 housing u could swap on the .63 from any standard t3
edit never mine its the smaller stage 1 t3 turbine wheel its about 3mm smaller on the inducer and 2.5mm smalle ron the exducer then a standard stage 3 wheel but it uses a standard shaft size so the compressor can be swaped onto any t3 turbo

go to the turboforums and tell that to the guys running ebay turbos that run 8's and 9's the same thing, these turbos have been proven to be reliable

i know my old ebay turbo we could swap the housings on and off from the intercooled gn turbos since they had the same size turbine. but i couldnt swap the turbine housing off the hotair turbo cause it had a smaler wheel
take the ex housing off and measure the turbine wheel im pretty damn sure its the same size as the turbine wheel on the 66mm turbo, if it is then u already have a nice .63 housing to use and i know u can buy .8x housings for the those turbos , i believe they came on the 301 carbed turbo setups and they are always for sale on ebay

this is my old hotair turbo , does urs look like this ?
well except for the modified turbine housing anyway i drilled the internal wastegate hole then taped it to npt thread and screwed in a plug them machined it flat.
i also machined the turbine inlet so it was flat for easy of making a flange for it to bolt to. mine had the .82 housing on the turbine, i ended up building a diy turbine engine out of it

well i just looked at it with the housing on, the exducer is roughly 2 1/16th" i can take off the housing tomorrow, but i dont have and verniers. just a tape measure.

that housing should swap right onto that 66mm its hard to tell though as im comming up with a 2 inch exducer on the 66mm turbo.

id hate to drop any ching without being sure that i can swap it. at first i was thinking of swapping other housings/wheels on this one i have with new seals and a bearing but i looks more expensive

just get the 3582 then as they spec out as true gt3582's
if u had a turbo with the stage3 turbine i.e a gn intercooled turbo id say go for the 66 and swap the wheel like fast is going to do

fast more then likley u will have to take the compressor cover backing plate and wheel off the 67 and bolt it to the 57 not just swap the housing

Wow, it's been a long time since I even looked at a stock Hot Air turbo charger from the 84/85 models. I have the measurements somewhere, I just have to find them. I can definitely tell you that they only flowed ~390 cfm at 15psi, which is horrific. Nice choice on the GT3582R by the way, now I can't wait to see this thing get done...

when it arrives just be sure to pull the compressor cover and measure the wheel ebay turbos dont always turn out to be what there listed as.

im going to start shopping for related parts as well.
since all of my experience is with internal wastegate turbos, im not sure what size wastegate to get. i have an srt4 intercooler, but thats probably way too small, so im going to sell that one and find something better.
needed parts list...
1. intercooler
2. wastegate
3. exhaust piping, which i have some that i can use. so i wont need much. also going to flip the headers and see how easy it will be to modify.
4. 3" ex downpipe
5. oil feed/drain lines
6. need to configure wiring for $59
7. wideband
8. flange for turbo, v bands
9. flange for wastegate and piping
10. charge piping

35/38mm wastegate will be fine
for the feeds and drians use pushlock hose and fittings, nexto the turbo this is prolly the most expspensive thing on the list
for the intercooler if buying ebay intercoolers dont buy one of the 24x6x2.3 cores they are to small
realisticly u want one of the large cores though being in ablazer i dont know how much room u have
i would use the 32x12x3 if u can fit it
the only bov i recomend is the rfl style bov
also let me know if u need a hand putting it all together , ive been looking for an excuse to load up the gf and the car hit up vegas
if u need help on any of the parts let me know and ill get u links

well i going to start tearing it down on the weekend of the 21st, id have to look into escorting you on base, shouldnt be hard tho.
im going to look up intercoolers now....

from what i remeber form looking at my friends 2.8 blazer the v mount was a really good fit and made the routing of the charge pipe easier

u can use brake lines for the oil feed, any parts store should carry inverted flare to npt pipe adapters , screw and adapter into the block, one into the turbo and connect with inverted flare tubing
for the drian use the pushlock stuff atleast -10
