Hood height needed for EV Pro Carb Hat
Have done several searches and can't seem to find an answer. Getting ready to put a new blow through 383 motor in the camaro. The EV standard hat is 4" high and the Pro is 5". There is a SS fiberglass hood on the car. Appears to have 3" more clearance than a stock hood where the hat will mount.
It calculates that the 4" may fit but the 5" won't. (Performer RPM Air Gap, 4150 Blow through carb)
Those of you running hats, what size hood did you have to use to clear your hat and what is the height of your hat. Thanks in advance.

Smaller hat is not an option on this motor. Thanks anyway.

I have a 4" fiberglass cowl hood, with a procharger competition hat (I believe it is 4" tall) and 1" spacer that fits.

IMHO, that one inch smaller four inch hat isn't gonna be a restriction if you're still trying to blow through a dual plane.
Single plane would prolly help out alot.
I fit a Super Victor, Holley, and cheapo restrictive Spectre hat under a three inch cowl.
Could prolly fit a four inch hat with a four inch cowl if need be.

Peformer RPM is a wonderful N/A piece, but the Jr. will be much better boosted!

Re: Hood height needed for EV Pro Carb Hat
The dual plane is a good street intake, good low end power, but everyone I talked to suggested going to single plane. Getting ready to change ignition boxes as well. I currently have a crane hi6 box, but I going to get a MSD boost referenced box that will automatically kick the timing down once the boost is applied. (just a side note I just put on a D1SC procharger this winter, getting close to getting it up and running.)

MSD 6530 is a great choice!

I was thinking more along the lines of MSD 6462.

Re: Hood height needed for EV Pro Carb Hat
You will gain very little with the vic jr. Some hp at higher rpm around 6500 on most stuff. Blow thru on the engine dyno showed better mid range torque with the RPM Performer and almost equal at 6200. (6hp )
The 5" hat showed 11-15 hp more than the 4". This is on a 650 hp motor with 10lbs boost.
I am trying to fit the 5" but won't cry if I can't. This is strictly a strip car.
I run the HI 6R with a boost retard. It seemed more stable and repeated better than the MSD stuff.
Thanks for the help.

Re: Hood height needed for EV Pro Carb Hat
A lot of varibles that can come in to play here as well, compression, cam, heads etc. Sounds like like you found a combination that works well with a dual plane set up as well.
