please help with turbo indentification and choice
hey guys, I'm trying not to use threads for questions and save them for the build thread i will be starting in a few weeks but I'm in the purchasing phase and just want to make sure I'm not making stupid decisions with buys. i should have 95% of my parts by the second week in November and will start a build on this. so again hope I'm not annoying anyone by using a thread for this question
intake side measures 2.128(54MM) at the smaller dia. on the fins and 2.750(70MM) on the larger dia.
exhaust side is 2.520(64MM) at the smaller dia. and 2.920(74MM) on the larger dia.
my current set up as of right now which might change in regards to heads (might get some rhs or afr's) is
-350 4 bolt 2pc main seal. standard bore
-summit steel crank.
-forged rods and dished pistons(those haven't came in yet)
-1.5 roller rockers
-not sure on springs yet(hoping to get some help from you guys on that one)
don't know cam yet(again help from you guys on that as well)
-186 camel hump heads, bowl blended, chamber polished, port match & polished.
-7qrt moroso with windage thingy in it oil pan, high volume pump
-tuned port intake and everything that goes with the stock set up
-built 700r4
-3:42 mini spool posi.
and unless you guys tell me its a waste of time i would like to do nitrous as well.
this isn't a dreamer thing i have most of everything already I'm just waiting on a few things and to get my motor, crank back from the shop and then have it balanced once my rods and pistons get here.
oh ya the question sorry. will this turbo be enough? for this build or should i just buy a bigger one for single set up. or go with a twin set up like this one maybe http://www.ebay.com/itm/330625386150...84.m1438.l2649
goals= street car in the country. i have few stop and go areas and will be driving this thing to work on nice days. would love to see 600hp(just a goal)

Re: please help with turbo indentification and choice
couldn't i just get a different housing? I'm not trying to do this cheaply but i don't want to spend money needlessly either. is there a single turbo i could buy that would support my build? i will do twin if i have to but was hoping to keep it single. thanks for the input.

Re: please help with turbo indentification and choice
Agreed, this turbo is a bit on the small side. As a rough guestimate, it would probably support around 400 crank hp. Single would be fine, just that you will need something bigger if you want to make those kinds of numbers. I have an Ebay T70 which has a 61mm compressor (small diameter) and a 62mm turbine and it will support around 450-475 crank hp. That one put me at 92.5 mph in the 1/8 which works out to about 440 crank hp for my weight. For 600 crank hp you will probably be looking at numbers around 65-72 mm depending on the quality/brand/price of turbo you go with.
Good luck on your project! It will be well worth all of the trouble once you feel the boost come in for the first time!

go on the turbo forums and contact vs racing, they stock the ebay gt45 turbo at aa great price 269 + shipping or so, it is a 70mm inducer turbo and is right up ur alley. the only downside is its a pysically large turbo

Re: please help with turbo indentification and choice
btw ditch the mini spool specially since ur street driving u will tear up the stock axles in no time im asuming ur car is an 89 if so u can get a torsen dropout from a 4thgen and use that.
i street drive my v6 with a homeade spool, i welded the spider gears to the carrier and it beats up axles all the time. last time i installed a set i painted a thin line down the lenght of the axle after 2 months u could see the lines was twisted about 1/4 inch over the lenght of the axle. had i let it go any longer it would have snapped it
