XFI292 in a boosted 355?
about to put a motor in my firebird and Im having second thoughts about using the XFI268. I kinda want a bigger cam, and have been looking at the 292 what do you think.
Motor
8.5:1
Patriot vortec 185 heads
Edelbrock Super Victor manifold w/elbow
LSx 90mm TB
P600b(for now)
xfi292 specs
Dur. 292/302
Lift .584/.579
LSA 113*

I personally feel its way too big. That setup would be better with a a 210cc runner if you wanted 292xfi. That cam will go to 7000rpm + in a 355. I see no reason to spin that high especially with just a 600 blower. D1sc may get more use out of it but still thats awfully high to rev.
How much power are you looking to make? I think there are better cams for blowers than the XFI series.

I plan to add a turbo, just using the 600 because I have it. I'm using Comps camquest(which may be the problem) and that cam keeps poping up. What kind of cam specs should I look for? As for power not looking for to much anything over 500 I'll be happy with and that's when it's turbocharged.

Call them.. they will do custom grinds for the same price as the ones they have listed. I talked with Steve there and he recommended the following custom grind for my L98 head 350/turbo combo:
224/224 @ .050
.537"/.530" on 1.5 rockers
114 separation
This is around $297

the big problem with comp cam quest is if you dont have the exact flow numbers of your heads its just gonna spit something crazy out at you

Re: XFI292 in a boosted 355?
IF your looking at 500-ish whp, you definately dont need that cam. That cam with the right heads could get you near 450whp all motor, let alone boost but its gonna spin up very high. Good combo for a miniram motor
The 268 would work well with a turbo and ok with a blower. Blowers typically use more duration on the exhaust side, 8-10 deg splits. turbos usually need closer to single pattern cams due to exhaust backpressure driving the turbine

So it sounds like I should just stay with the 268 I have. I may email comp just to see what they recommend.
@scamaro355 I did put in the flow numbers, it recommends both the 280 and 292 xfi cams.

You will make ALOT more average power with the 268 and even the 280, as the 280 is the bigget cam i'd go with. THe more average power the faster the car will be. The 292 doesnt come alive until 4500 rpm and wont stop til over 7000. Thats spinning pretty high
