Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

I know Hyper pistons are brittle but whats your opinion for a safe power shot of nitrous? The rest of the motor is built, forged bottom end, hardened pushrods, good springs.
Thx

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

I wouldn't call Hypers brittle, but they can shatter under detonation. They are tough pistons, with the nitrous correctly tuned you can easily run a 200 shot on them no problem.

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

200, hmm, was not considering going that high ever even with the built tranny, but stock 10 bolt w/3:73 gears.

If 200 is true, I guess the 150 limit I had in mind should be no problem when set up properly with the "safety" goodies.

Opinion question #2
With the TPI, soon to be stealth ram induction setup, should I stay with a dry shot or go for wet?
Thx

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

Wet is the better route IMO. Because dry uses the injectors to add fuel, if you injectors are not up to the task or if you are already modified and running stock injectors you can easily go lean.

Either way you need a solid fuel pump and ignition system.

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

I've run a progressive 250hp wet shot on my LT1 (factory hypereutectic pistons). As long as you don't screw up the tune they'll take whatever you throw at them (technically they're stronger than forged, just brittle, so if they don't rattle they don't tend to break).

I'm a big fan of wet systems, since you can use how far from the TB the nozzle is to tune how hard the spray hits and you know that the fuel and N2O are being injected together.

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

Thanks guys for the replys.
Would you recommend an in tank 255 fuel pump or add a booster inline pump?
If adding a wet nitrous kit, should I adjust the fuel pressure?
Thx

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

What is your motor power? Watch your fuel pressure when you open the fuel solenoid, as long as your pressure doesn't drop more than a 1-2 psi you should be fine. I'd say as long as you are under 400rwhp and you could run a 150 shot w/o worry with a single intank walbro

Re: Nitrous with Hyperutectic pistons

150 easy.. go wet it will save you the pain and hassle! and make sure to have some kind of ingition its best to run msd or something for hotter spark. and the intank will do fine.
