gonna supercharge my 87 z

my z is screaming for attention, i figured super charger and new paint job would do it. 1987 iroc z 305 5 speed t-tops.
have done some light reading, enough to see this can get very expensive. i know it will cost some money; im not rich, nor cheap. i want more power and i figured this would be nice. also in search of a "nice" super charger sound. my friend and i will be doing the installing in my garage.

can anyone point me in the right direction for builds/guides? i do plan on getting sub frame connectors to tighten up the frame, any other pointers? what am i gonna have to work around?

i have plenty of time to talk this out, any help would be greatly appreciated.

also about how much more power can i expect from this upgrade? car has 215hp stock. i wanted to drop a 6speed in, but money got tight, hoping to atleast do the supercharger, but if its to much power for my current t5 then, well then i just might have to blow a few t5's before the 6speed goes in.

any help appreciated

Sub frames are a must in a Fbod if you plan on adding more power. Plus they make the car feel oh so much better when you take turns. First your engine needs to be in good running order, if it has 150k on it and **** for compression your just going to put the final nail in the coffin.

The amount of power added by the supercharger will be dependant on the amount of boost you run. The figures say that 14.7 psi would double your HP, since that would blow your stock engine, a practical 7 psi would net you a 50% hp gain. You'd be looking at approx 320-325hp. Easily enough to trash your T5. A solid fuel and ignition system are a must to make sure you don't go lean and detonate and trash the engine. 24lb SVO's are recommended to deal with that added fuel pressure, stock ones lock up from what I have read. A new fuel pump, I put in a Walbro 255 with the racetronix hotwire kit. A new cap, rotor, good aftermarket plug wires. New plugs, 1 step colder is recommended by the procharger install manual. A high output aftermarket coil to keep up with added demand. Higher combustion pressures require a more powerful spark.

i may just by another camaro chasis and do the 383 with a supercharger for a project. thanks for the info.

145k is pretty damn impressive! In my opinion that is a tab bit broken in to be adding force induction onto though.

Re: gonna supercharge my 87 z

I'm at 141k and running 8 psi at the moment. I do plan on going through the engine sooner than later but so far it's been fine. It already had bad valve stem seals and has puffed smoke on the first startup since I got it last year. Hoping to make it through the winter before I redo the engine. Will go for 12-14 psi (as soon as I have rebuild money standing by) and see how well it holds up. Should have around 144k by then
