Holset Hx35+l98=???
Hi all, just wondering if anyone has ran a HX35 on a L98 tpi car in a single turbo style setup.
My car->
327 shortblock(balenced to 7500rpm)
2 bolt main
zero decked
.040 over
9.8:1 ish compression ratio(i know its to high for right now)
world product heads sportmans II 64cc/2.02-1.6
summit 1103 cam(for now)
3300rpm stall
mild 700r4
3.23 gears
Soooo think i could run a hx35? Holsets site only says 5.5L to 6.0L and i know they come on Cummins turbo diesels 5.9L

i was under the assumtion that when i ran a hx35 back in the day on my mk3 it was way too much(boosted late in rpm)
also the volume the diesel carries is huge...hell ive seen a few hx35 cummins 12v motors running over 40psi

im new to domestic turbo and gm wonderful screw up tpi....

A 3.0 liter at 6000 RPM needs the same air as a 6.0 liter at 3000 RPM. That is why the HX35 worked on your little 3.0 engine.

a few yrs. back i used a holset h1e off a 95 cummins diesel dodge on a rebuilt 355 lt1 with stock heads, cam, intake. stock compression ratio.
used fmu and 30 lb. injectors. turbo manifold i built with t4, h1e is t4 flange, non wastegate or actuator, had to use hks 35mm wg. it saw around 6psi, and made around 445rwhp thru m6. thats around 525bhp
and walbro intank 225lph and inline 255lph pumps. car ran very hard, with the turbo, spooled ok, full psi came in around 2800-3000rpm
after 6psi, the iat would start to climb quick. not too long ago i found a compressor map for a h13, and it was rated around 550bhp on gas engine.
pretty much correct,

Get a HX50 or HX55 minimum. OR go on theturboforums.com and looks for some of the bigger diesel turbos likes mine...
Garrett/aireserch.....74mm t6 housing and .96A/R. Should be good for around 900hp as is then is upgradable to an 88mm turbine

even though my motor was built to run upwards of 7500rpm....i dont want to run it that hard...for now

a single mpt70 is rated at 750bhp. invest in a proper fuel enrichment. correctly calibrated ecm, rising rate fpr, 42lb. injectors, or even 60lb. injectors. a fmu with larger injector would work well, but not optimal.
need sufficient fuel feed.
the turbo in my sig the previously mentioned H1E, which is just about the same size physically as a mpt70.

A tpi setup falls on its face after 4500 rpm anyways. So just shift at 4500 rpm and maybe that turbo will be ok...
j/k Thats probably not the best of logic and you should really do some more research and looking into what you are actually undertaking before you pursue the turbo world.

well its tpi right now.....
but the WP heads havent been installed since ive went efi due to the fact im waiting until i buy a HSR or such efi intake compatible with the tpi setup

If I were to do a under 355ci block. I would deffinitly go with a Masterpower T70 maybe a T76 with a .96A/R. The TPI does fall flat in upper rpm, but if you have an aftermarket or really good ported heads/intake rev it up maybe to 6ish. I shift my LT1 at 6100 in an auto.
I would say 7500 you are not making any power up there unless it was an lt1 car lol.
I would say a built 350 with a T70 would be an easy setup to be around 550WHP.
Also your at the same compression as my 383 LT1.
RUN METH AND A INTERCOOLER.
I plan on running around max 12psi on 94 octane with meth and intercooled. Looking to get 600+RWHP

You should be able to do that NA without the complication of a power adder. put a good set of heads on it, good cam, HSR intake, 3.73 gear, I dont see why you couldn't do that. You're going to need 400hp, that means running a stout cam and revving that 327 a little bit, but I think it can be done without forced induction. If you get high 12s and need a tad more, just hit it with a 100 shot of nitrous and you're there.

The manifolds will out last the Ebay manifolds by a long shot. You need to weld them properly.
That involves heating to the proper temperature.
Using the proper rod (60% nickel) on DC+ (recommended)
Slow cooling (as in 24 hrs) in an oven
Not doing the above will make them questionable. Mine were done properly.
