Supercharger or Procharger

My dad has made me an offer for next semester grades. Get all B's I can get a expensive power adder and I always wanted to do a supercharger. But is a procharger better? What upgrades will I need to put into the car so I dont blow my engine?

Re: Supercharger or Procharger

Uhhhh... a procharger is a supercharger. Prochargers by default come with an intercooler unlike most (not all maybe) other mfg's of blowers. As far as doing anything to your engine? You don't have to. Their kits are bolt on. Go to their website and look at the options. I'd suggets a P1SC or D1SC if you can.

someone needs to do a LOT of research.

Procharger = Supercharger

I think you would be pleased with a Procharger.

When I was in school, my parents gave me an ultimatum with regard to grades, too - Straight A's or no privileges. I'm not joking, either. It makes you a better man, though.

In some ways I wish I would have went with Procharger. But I am still glad I went with Vortech. I am having a pain in the butt installing a intercooler on it though

I had an intercooler (FMIC) on my vortech for a while.

Problem is, the S-trim doesn't create enough boost to make it worth it. Pressure drop is too much, in the end you make less power.

Vortech blowers are pretty efficient to begin with.

I also don't understand why your making soo much boost with an S trim.. 18psi?? Usually those blowers only make that much boost on smaller motors that don't flow much. AFR210 and a miniram should flow plenty.. weird.

if vortech makes a kit they have a better warranty than procharger, id also not run more than 8 psi of boost or you will be shooting pistons through the hood and out the oil pan

Re: Supercharger or Procharger

You'll be able to run more boost with an intercooler than without and it will help you stay out of detonation, which will be your worst enemy with a stock l98.

Re: Supercharger or Procharger

Okey, with all this said you can run a procharger/supercharger off from just regular hyperuteatic pistons like speed pro? I always figured it was forged or bust when it came to boost. Like mine I got I beam rods with speed pro pistons just h.u. and i figured that wouldn't be able to run a charger in my 383?

Re: Supercharger or Procharger

Go with forged. Not sure about using hyperuteatic pistons with a supercharger or turbo, but i know with nitrous it makes them go bye bye. Its kinda funny when you pop off a head and see just rods chillin there lol.

Re: Supercharger or Procharger

in a perfect world you can run 40 lbs of boost on a stock piston, but here in the real world a little thing call detonation happens, two or three ways to keep it from busting your pistons, run a stouter piston (forged) hypers just dont get carboned up as much as cast, and arent more strong enough to pay the difference between them and cast. retard your timing, the closer the piston is to the bottom of the stroke, and the futher away it is from the head, the less likely you would be to break it, same thing applies to a lower compression ratio, less pressure, less tention less breakage. I kind of doubt that you are gonna be making more than 400 horse power on a stock 305 camaro engine, so the stock rods and crank should be fine. Just make sure to use good head gaskets and bolts (arp bolts) cause the heads on a boosted engine will lift some times

His stats say 350 engine, not 305.

"as sold" the vortech or procharger will be fine. He's not building a 10 second car, he wants to add a supercharger to his stock engine. There is nothing he has to do, the kit includes the timing retard and FMU with booster pump.

Re: Supercharger or Procharger

sounds like a done deal then, bolt on and go....6 psi should get him a lil more power anyways, just wanna make sure that he knows that if he trys a few more pounds stuff will break

As long as he installs it "as sold" he will be fine.

If he starts experimenting with pulleys then he is on his own. But since he doesn't know the difference between a supercharger and a hoover vacuum, my feeling is this thing will never get purchased anyhow.
