supercharging higher comp?

can you use an intercooled supercharger on a motor with 10.5-1 comp and still use pump gas? maybe about 8psi? it would have aluminum heads if that matters.
would i have to play with ring end gaps? i believe i have .022 top ring and .020 second
just toying with an idea if some one could humor me.
i just want to know if i could do this without tearing down the bottom end

Re: supercharging higher comp?

it can be done with some alky injection on top of the after cooler but i doubt you will get very far with those end gaps... think mid 030s then mid to upper 020s on the second

Re: supercharging higher comp?

i have a honda that has 10:1 compression on 8lbs of boost, not intercooled at all, just straight hot air forced in. on 89 octane it starts detonating anywhere above 5psi and 3000rpm. i run 91 octane and i dont get any detonation at all. but if you are intercooled and half a point higher compression, im not sure. i dont know about the ring gaps though. all i can say is tune tune tune.

Re: supercharging high comp?

hondas are all aluminum.. BIG difference.. i would get methanol/alky injection just to be safe..

if possible, get heads with bigger chambers and get that compression as LOW as possible.. you better have a good intercooler, a good tune and run as high octane as you can.. NOTHING below 91.. and i agree, open those gaps..

Re: supercharging high comp?

Honda engines are more advanced than a LS7 and some of them like the H22 can make 500+hp and stay a daily driver. It could be done but I wouldn't try and push anything above 9.5:1 because then your dancing with trouble and it could cause serious damage. Just get some gould pistons and rods and keep the boost at 14 or less but most of all a good air to fuel ratio will keep you in the clear.

This combonation should be fine.... Run one colder plug and close the gap some. Back your time down about 2-4 degree intial and run 93 octane. The rest should be fine! Intercooler will take care of the rest....

Re: supercharging high comp?

Well, the LS7 [I]is[I] pretty basic. I dont want to go there though. I think you'll fine, vortech says that you can run 14:1 compression if you keep the boost to 5psi.

Look up a boost compression calculator. With you at 8psi and 10.5 cr, its about the same as my 9.5 cr and 11psi. Around 16:1, and I hear that 18:1 isnt a bad place to be.

I would recommend alky injection also with the intercooler. Hopefully you have some good combustion chambers too.
