Paxton Supercharger

I am looking into and saving up for a Paxton supercharger for my 91 z28. I have a tpi 305 with 3.73 gears, headman headers, hypertec chip, 160* thermo and im gettin a bunch of other crap. The supercharger is only $2500 or so and i think that is pretty cheap compared to the $3000 for a vortec one. I want to know if anyone has one of these on a 305 and how much better is it and was it easy to install and anythin good or bad about the paxton supercharger for the 305 tpi camaro. Thanks a lot.

I'd get a ProCharger if I was you. The SN series of Paxton blowers (ball drive) have durability problems. This is from witnessing others experiences and from what people say on the internet.

LOL you can buy one brand new with all paperwork, complete with warranty for $2200-$2400.

I bought mine back long before the Prochargers came along.
If I where buyng one today it would be a Procharger as a first choice and Vortech as a second choice.

You'll be looking at $500-$800 everytime you need to rebuild a Paxton. Also you won't get more than 10 PSI out of it at best and it won't last long at that boost level.

I have a Paxton sn2000m on my 305tpi.
It runs great looks good and is quiet.
I would recomend the dipstick oil cooler and upgrading it to a larger cooler with a fan as I did.
Also learn how to burn your own chips, you'll find extra horse power and greater drivability.
And do not over speed the blower it will crater.

Prochargers are awesome from what I've been reading. I've been reading up on them for about a year now. They put out a guarantee on them ATI says you will run <5 mph faster in the 1/4 (50 more hp) vs other non intercooled superchargers. If they fail to deliver that they will give you full reimbursement and 250 bucks for installation or you can keep the system and I'll give you 2k refund.

Prices
88-92 5.7L TPI Camero/Firebird

HO intercooled with P600B (9-12 PSI Boost) 60-80% hp gain 2 core intercooled $3,600

Stage II intercooled with d-1 (12-20 PSI) 85+% hp gain 3 core cooler $4,300

They go on to say its a 130-200 hp, 13-20 mph faster 1/4 mile. Supposely with the right traction you can run 11's with otherwize stock L98 f-bodys.

Plus they keep the warranty up to 20 PSI boost.

The prices listed above are full retail directly from ATI. Prices through any of their distributorships are much lower. I bought my D1SC kit from David Back of Tenacious Performance for $3387 or about $1000 less than ATI's retail price. This kit comes with the three-core intercooler.

I did an independant study of intercooler effectiveness by adding three air temperature gauges:

#1 is in my custom airbox,
#2 is in the intake tract just before the intercooler, &
#3 is in the intake tract just after the intercooler.

The specifics are on another post on this board. Suffice it to say, it air temps going into the IC ranges, depending on ambient temps and how hard you're driving it. I have seen temps as high as 202 degrees. The air temps coming out of the IC seems to hold at about five to ten degrees above ambient, regardless on pre-intercooler temps.

I have gained slightly over two seconds in the 1/4.

I also need to mention I used to own an SN2000. The problem with this blower is the fact that the planetary ball drive tends to wear out prematurely as evidenced by many (but not all). Also, the impeller rpm's is limited to 38,000 (thereby limiting maximum boost). This may seem high but in contrast, Vortech and ATI's redline is 60,000 - 65,000 rpm, depending on model.
