nitrous bosses

I have seen many manifolds that say that they come with nitrous bosses can someone explain what they are and will the help on a carb application?

Nitrous bosses are raised areas of extra metal that can be drilled and tapped for nitrous nozzles.

does this apply to a dry system like some EFI uses?
