Nitrous on 305... same ol' q's.
Well, folks, I did go back through the old posts, and read through as many as I could, but I still have some questions on putting nitrous on my LB9 305. First off, with just some aftermarket electronics (MSD coil, 6a box, spark plugs [what kind should i use] and wires) will a 100 shot be safe to use in my engine? It would probably be used once weekly or biweekly, and I have a T5 tranny, 3.42 gears. Also, I have a KN airfilter and TPIS airfoil, and 3" flomaster exhaust. No headers, though... so, back to my questions (sorry if i seem to be rambling), will my motor (60,000 miles) hold up? When would I activate the system, and when would I shift? Any other upgrades need to be made to run a 100 HP shot? Thanks guys!
Jon

l have the LB9 305 and it's got 70,000 miles on it, aftermarket runners, headers and exhaust, and a 150 HP shot of nitrous by NOS ive had it for a while now, gone through about 10-12 bottles of it, about 4 on a 100 HP shot. to tell you the truth its running better than it ever has without nitrous. it starts faster, runs smoother, even feels a little more powerful when not on the bottle l'm not sure why, but it really does. as far as ignition goes- anything with adjustable timing control MSD makes some good ones, so does Mallory, and ACCEL also is a good company you don't need an aftermarket ignition coil- l beleive the stock one is sufficient l've got all factory ignition components and its worked fine- stock fuel system also. a good RPM to kick the juice in is anywhere from 2,000-2,500 RPM's and although it may feel like its still pulling at the top end shift at about 4,500-5,000 l've never over revd on nitrous because l've been told the factory HEI ignition starts to weaken at real high RPM's. l do plan to install an MSD 6A kit asap. thats my nitrous saga and l hope it helped you a little

My motor has 100,000 plus miles on it. My t-5 has 100,000 plus miles on it. N2O raises my shift point 800 rpm. Look at my sig for times.

Hey MouseCamaro, I have a LB9 as well, could you really tell the difference with nitrous? Say a mustang beats me by 2-3 cars in the quarter mile, will I beat him by adding the 125 shot?
After seeing the movie Fast and Furious, I've decided that I want nitrous!!!

you can feel the difference of a 100 shot, and you can almost not keep the "difference" on the road with a 150 shot, l think you'd beat a mustang (fairly stock) with a 150 shot, go all or nothing, you'll love the 150 shot, it chirps my street tires when l juice it at 25 MPH in second gear

Do you think my engine will be up for the abuse? It's pushing about 110K. I swapped the cam in December, also did valve seals, lifters, spring, roller, and chain. Put in a new fuel pump 2 years ago so I hope the delivery is up for the task. I use Bosch platinum plugs and have the timing stock. Anything imperative I should change?

yeah- lose the platinum plugs- nitrous and platinum plugs do not agree with each other, you might get away with it for awhile but l wouldnt even mess around with it. use a good set of plugs, (you dont have to get all expencive) AC delco makes fine plugs, and l would reccomend getting one plug colder than stock possibly two plugs colder than stock timing can stay where it's at- mine is. also make sure you've got a good ignition system HEI tends to crap out at the most critical times- 4,500-5,000
