Idea about mounting two intercoolers!

What if any advantage would there be to running two small IC for my twin turbo project as say opposed to one huge one like Skulte? I thought i could run the plumbing the same route as Skulte by the head lights and then mount both IC side by side in the front like Skulte and then out the coldside and merge together on the cold side of the IC into one pipe that goes underneath the radiator/frame and straight up and into the intake.

My non-scientific WAG would be that you'd see more of a pressure drop with two smaller ICs due to higher restrictions.

But I'm only guessing here

superiroc,

A properly sized intercooler will have only a very minimal pressure drop, so 2 intercoolers is a good way to go, just expensive, and also remember, every bend in the tubing hurts the velocity,(not volume) so try to make gradual bends whenever possible,

only advantadge i would see is if you intended to use two used coolers, probably from: 89-92 Turbo Probe, 85-89 i belive isuzu impulse, or a DSM, otherwise dont waste money on two coolers instead of one larger one.

I was just wondering because i see LPE use two small coolers and also callaway twin turbo sledgehammer also, and the callaway car uses two T0-4s.

Twin intercoolers is usually done due to space limitations (300ZX, 3000VR4, etc.). Pressure drop depends on end tank design, and length of core tubes and boost pipes. The problem with 2 small intercoolers is that you can not get the same cooling effects as having one large single core with long tubes. The charge air is not exposed to cooling air for a long enough time to reduce the air temperature drastically. Use one cooler if at all possible...

It sounds like one cooler is the way to go. I like the IC that skulte is using it flows 1500cfm and is large 3.5x15.6x20.0

That, and the fact that all of the cars that are running two intercoolers are also running two throttle bodies. Our twin blade throtte body isn't the same thing. all that air is going into one hole, so why not force it together sooner. Unless it's a single tubo system, in that case, why split it up?

If you are looking for an intercooler setup, probably a kit from ati would work.IMO the kit fits well under the nose and is easily routed thriugh the fenders up to the motor, they offer a 3 core, which is 27 inces long about and it fits under the nose easily, plus they offer a sheetmetal one for a bit more
