hypereutectic pistons and nitrous

I know there not as strong as forged so how much nitrous can they handle. Is the main difference between them and cast is that they don't absorb heat which keeps them from expanding as much. Thanks

I already told you what i thought and found out. I would suggest going to 4 or 5 well know machine shops and ask them. Maybe even the tech dept at summit and or jegs.

This came up before and here is what I posted(for the most part). Yes, Hyp. pistons are lighter, less vulnerable to heat and stress, better tolerant, and have less friction on the cylinder walls. However, they are harder which means they are more brittle. This is NOT good for a nitrous application nor blower application b/c these are areas where detonation is more likely to occur. If detonation occurs w/ brittle (more hard) pistons KABLOOEEE!!!!!!!! Even cast is better than hyp, for nitrous applications. This isn't saying.....go use cast pistons b/c they suck too for this application. It means used forged all the way around, bottom line and then you don't have to worry. Hyp. is stronger than cast, but also harder, so my order of use is 1. forged 2. cast 3. hyp. if using a blower or juice. for n/a, I say 1. hyp(light weight/very strong) 2. forged(strong, yet heavy) 3. cast
Hope this helps

Would they be ok for just a 75 shot of juice?

As long as you did not have any detonation, you would be ok, BUT you never know if you get some bad fuel, or if a nitrous cylinoid goes bad...remember the story about my vett? Luckly, i had forged pistons and just warped a head and burned two valves. I would save up and spend the extra cash on the forged pistons and make sure you get a purge valve or a second nitrous cyliniod. If you are only going to use 75hp nitrous jets, use the cast pistons, but lets face it, its so easy to put the 150 jets in and NOS says its safe to use up to 175hp on a stock engine. I would use the forged just incase!

I'd have to say....NO Only b/c when you feel the 75 shot, your gonna say, Ok, how 'bout the 150 shot. Trust me. If you go forged, then you can always run the 150 or 175 shot. So, if money is the issue and you already have the hyp's....think about it like this. Sell, the hyp's, buy forged, then you get and extra 75-100 Horsepower. For a 1-2 hundred bucks, 75-100 HP is a lot of HP.
