Or do you just start up and go? It gets pretty cold here in Delaware. Just wondering some opinions.
THanks

I saw a guy a couple weeks ago with an LT1 4th gen S-Trim on a built shortblock race a few other guys in the MFBA get together while the motor was cold. He blew a head gasket from it.
Yeah, I always let it warm up before stomping on it.

I always let my car fully warm up before stomping to. I was just referring to daily driving. From work and so on.

I always let my LT4 warm up before rolling out. ATI says never to rev untill you get up to operating temp. Besided... the TA hated the cold w/ a passion...drive it cold, and she would kick and sputter like you wouldn't believe...she would get mad at me

You should always allow your motor to warm the oil fuuly before driving when possible. Allow the coolant temp to rise abit to ensure she is warm . This goes for every car.
Do you want your oil sitting in the pan or moving through the motor?

I usually let my lil' girlie, warm up my engine before driving her, (j/k)

As with any engine, you should always let it get alittle heat in the engine before you hammer onit, unless your independently wealthy!!! and like to break things!!!

I let my car idol for about a minuet before i leave the parking lot. this is to ensure that every thing has adequate oil flow to it. Allowing your car to warm if you have a blower is even more ikmportant. This is due to the oil that has to make it's way to the blower unit. it is less important with a self contained unit. If you want your engine to last you will allow it to idol before you drive. I do not rev my car past 2500 before the coolant gauge shows 120. Synthetic oil is better for a blower car because it is thinner at lower temps.

I might be the odd man out here but I don't let my car idle for extended periods of time hot or cold.

If you are familiar with the break in procedure for a flat tappit cam then you know more oil flows at 1500-2000 RPM than at idle. If you are using the correct viscosity oil for the temperature it will flow reasonalble well even at cold temps. This winter it was a little colder here than normal and I have been using Moble 1 0w30. In the summer I usually use Syntech 5w50.

Your best bet for warming an engine is to start it and imediately begin driving at MODERATE speeds. Keep RPMs below 2500 until the oil is up to operating temp.
The engine will warm up quicker if driven moderately than if just idled. Also driving at 1500-2000 RPM supplies more oil to the engine than idle speed does.

If your car has drivability problems (runs like §¶!†) when cold starting, then you need to adjust the choke on carbed cars or alter the cold start compensation in the PROM chip of injected cars.
