Can Cast Pistons take the abuse?
I have built an impressive budget engine out of of a 92TBI short block and vortec heads, but now that Im questing for more HP and thinking about the squeeze I'm a little curious how well the cast pistons and stock rings and all will hold up to the nitrous on top of the power Im making already. The only thing replaced on the short block was the bearings and the engine has about 35K total miles........No more than 100HP would be used if I opted for the bottle

If you stay at or below 100HP it will live fine for a long time.Make sure that your ignition and fuel systems are in top working order.

Slick! I was coming here to ask the same question. I'm thinking of rebuilding my 2.8, and was considering adding nitrous in the future. I noticed how much more expensive forged pistons are- and decided "Hey, why put that $$ into a v6?" Good to know I could run with cast pistons and still use nitrous oxide.
Basically as long as your fuel pump's good, nothing bad can happen to a piston, right? I replaced the pump myself in July of 1997-- July 5th, actually. What a crummy holiday weekend that was!

I have ran 150 shot for over three (yes, 3) years on a completely STOCK engine L-98 (350). Love it too. It will hold it as long as your timing and fuel are correct. If not ......oh no

I have done the same thing.. I have run several cast piston motors with a 125 or 150 shot for years and never had a problem.. I even have a 2 bottle a week habbit..lol. My last one was in my Nova and it was a cast flattop piston 350 with a 280 type hydrolic cam, stock 882 heads, a performer intake, headers, 2 1/2" duel exhaust with flowmasters, 4.11 gears, and a TH400 with a 3000 converter and ran 8.1's in the 1/8 which comes out to a mid 12 in the 1/4. I drove this car daily to and from work and to and from the track. It was very fun and never had a single problem.
