leaf blower!

I know this has been posted before, someone decided to throw on a leaf blower onto there intake.

people ripped that idea to shreds saying all sorts of things negative about it

there, dyno proven.

I dont understand it myself either.

Have you ever calculated how much horsepower it takes to make boost/compressed air? Yeah, if you can gain 30hp with a "tornado" then a weed wacker/blower would probably give more HP.

Do the math and post how much HP it takes. Compare that to the blower engine HP with zero loss. "Dyno Proven" is as good as "I saw it on TV". Not knocking you.....run it through a calculator and see if it is true.

One thing I have never been good with is math. I can add, subtract multiply and SOMETIMES divide without a calculator but give me a formula or percentages, and im lost

Math isn't for everyone. Take a look at this calculator. At the bottom it lists how much horsepower it takes to drive a turbo (air compressor) and how much HP the engine under boost delivers.
It takes 20+ HP in general. Not many 20HP leave blowers out there.

I mean, if someone were to tell me that a leaf blower creates boost, then I would laugh in there face.

But what I think it does do that benefits the engine is makes it easier to suck in air, its given air rather than having to get it if you know I mean.

Try this. Put a very light hose on the output of the leaf blower. Put the hose at the intake (carb or TB). Run the the engine to WOT and watch the RPM where the engine sucks up the hose. Once you get done laughing about it you will realize that it doesn't work so well.

whats that one thing on ebay that i always see? its a electric fan thing and it claims to add 30-50 hp......... COMPLETE bull plop! i dont know where they come up with this stuff. if it worked so great they would factory install it on cars because its a very cheap electric motor that claims to add SOOO much power. i bet thousands of people bought one though

It is true that a leaf blower or electric fan make positive pressure. They don't make enough for a V6 or V8 at a usable RPM. Play around with the calculator in the link above. It shows you need about 3-4HP to make 2PSI of boost at 3000 rpm on a 231 V6. So if you wanted to boost a small ci motorcycle or a lawn mower or something like that, then it would work. It could be something to try the next time you are doing yard work. I don't recommend doing it though. The engine isn't jetted properly for boost.

EDIT- or you could supercharge your leaf blower. Connect the blower output to the intake pipe of the leaf blower.
