Turbo sizing for a specific application 4.3 V6 towing
I am planning a RMT on a 99' Silverado 2wd 4.3 V6 truck. It was suggested to me that I should use a cyclone turbo, but I think that is to big. I am trying to get some more power for towing and in general better acceleration. I would want off idle power and low end grunt. Probably max boost 8 psi and I am for sure replacing the cam. Would a turbo from a 2.2 chyrsler be way to small?

First of all, its spelled Syclone, with an S The turbo from a SyTy would be just fine...they are pretty small turbos actually.
They spool very fast and make all kinds of torque down low.
The stock SyTy engine is a low revving motor. Better have a proper trans built for this tho...turbos+700r4+towing dont mix.

I just noticed You are referring to a remote mount turbo...I think even then the SyTy turbo would not be too big, but You could probably get by with a turbo from the 2.2...actually, the 2.2 turbo on the intercooled models isnt that small either...its a T3 flange turbo just like the SyTy turbo, but smaller housings, but its actually not as undersized as the SyTy turbo is for a 4.3...here You would be concerned with the exhaust side...in theory You dont want it too big, because a remote mount turbo gets cooler and lower pressure exhaust gas,
Your stock cam will be fine. Your compression ratio is way high for a turbo...You will be limited to low boost and premium gas only.

Well soooorry with an S
Okay, I guess I will go with a sy/ty. I was going to replace my camshaft since I am going to have to replace the lifters. I was just going to call up tech and tell them what I am building. As for the 700R4 and towing, GM puts a 350 in front of them so I figured that it should be able to handle the power and a big ol' cooler to complement that. I was talking with a 700R4 guru and he said theirs no telling if you got the heavy duty 700R4 or not. He said that their isn't a rhyme or reason if its in a truck or car. Only one way to see if the tranny can handle it

A stronger-than-stock transmission is always a good thing, but as long as you have a normal stall converter (nothing with a crazy high speed) and don't tear *** from a line, a decent stock rebuilt tranny will probably last quite some time. Since a street turbo doesn't really make that much boost until you're up a bit in the revs, it shouldn't affect the load placed on the tranny from initial launch anyway.

If You only tow a jet-ski or small boat or bike...You will be OK,
if You tow something big...it will fall apart no matter who built it. The beauty of it is, its Your truck, so You can do with it as You please.

So most likely that has the 4L60-E included. I mean, I have towed a station wagon on a car hauler, it did get up to 60 mph cruise, but accelerating took forever with that little 4.3L.
