ok, so I'm building a pair of weld el log exhaust manifolds for a TT small block. pretty much 1 1/4 els into a 2.5" log, with a kick out for each turbo. using a pair of GN turbos rebuilt. mild steel construction, 3/8" flange.

does anyone have any opinion about having these high temp ceramic coated, inside and out?

I hear bad things about coating inside manifolds made of mild steel, and that mild steel will eventually break down. once that happens, it tends to take out the turbines.

so should I coat them just on the outside, or both inside and outside?

what are all you guys opinions????

I've heard all that bad stuff too. However, I've been running Jet-Hot 2000 (2400 degree) coating on and inside my Talon's mild steel turbo header for a year now without any problems. I've had the thing really hot before too, you can't get a whole lot hotter than flames shooting straight through the header to spool the turbo off the line (antilag), then 24 psi worth of boosted heat (roughly 105hp per .5 liter cylinder). I do that just about every race, and every pass, and it's been going great so far.

I can't say whether or not any other coating would handle that, I only speak from experience, but that was enough to make me send my Camaro's turbo headers off to Jet Hot and have the same 2400 degree coating applied to them, inside and out.

The coating only go on 1-2mills think

Ive done inside and out side of housings and manifolds, heders etc.

I use techline TURBO X and ceramachrome.
Both made to withstand the temps.

Turbo X is a turbo specific coating made for just that Turbo Apps.

befor you ask. Im not gona get into which company is better. HPC,JET HOT, Mine, etc..

Call and talk to em all. Look up warrenty Info. etc

Personal Exp. I started doing my own and grew because I had a set of jet hot turn to **** with in the 1st year.

Then again you have people like Steve whos lasted a long time. All prob depends who was doing the coatings that day.. because it all in the prep of the parts.

anyone have any horror stories?

i don't plan on a ton of boost, but i'm sure it will be smokin hot regardless.
