do exhaust manifolds have to be round?
Thinking about making a set of turbo headers and I am wondering if there are benifits to a round header. I want to make a log style header and use square tube for the manifold.

Does it work? Yes!
A square pipe will have slightley more flow resistance than a round pipe with the same area.
Will you notice any differance? Probably not.

Square usually requires a larger crossection to flow the same, but more importantly, it will have more surface area for the same crossection, or more of an opportunity to transfer heat where you don’t want to.
OTOH, even a very inefficient turbo setup on a V8 can make way more power then what 99% of people could really use.
