well.....i'm only 16 so i'm limited to cash right now...i want to get as much HP as i can without having to go buy a 350ci...i would like to buy one right now but i dont have the money. pretty much i just want somethin streetworthy...i know the LG6 isnt the best motor to build up on...but i guess i gotta work with what i have.i'm already planning on a B&M shift improver kit...a chip an 3.73's.....all i ever knew was import performance so the whole "muscle" scene is too confusing...

I dont know how well the factory CC carb and ECM would handle having a super charger slap'd into the mix. I dont think it would quite cut it. The easyest way to gain power with less hassle would be te 144 Weiand blower, but theres always hidden cost with that.

I'm 17 and I also have an '86 305 4bbl. An LG4. I've looked into the whole thing and I have decided the best way to go (for me) is to either rebuild my 305 and put a s/c on it or just get a rebuilt 350. And I dont think I need to tell you which will be more reliable or cheaper. And since I'd only be putting like 8-10 lbs into it anyway, I think a n/a 350 is better for me.
If I thought my 305 could handle a s/c right now then that's what I'd do, but I seriously dont.
And 600 for a carb? Even 300 is a little high. You need to look around harder or get to know certain people lol. Try ebay. ebay has everything. Including cheap carbs.

while it wouldnt be the greatest thing in the world, you could even get just a 350 shortblock and put on all the 305 stuff, and it would pass emissions just fine assuming its not a ****ty engine. that would hold you off until you could get better heads/cam etc. but if you have enough to do a supercharger you could easily get a good performing 350. go to a swapmeet or ebay or whatever get a used aftermarket intake and carbeurator, rebuild the carb. get a powerband from around idle -5500rpm (maybe 6500...but whatev). I see in the newspaper all the time where they have complete 350 long blocks for 950 bucks. new and all that jazz, its just a basic 230hp ish 350. then while its out swap in a mild cam and you got a great performer for less then 2k. but if emissions are a big concern for you just get the 350 long block and new cam and throw on the 305 intake. temporary but it works.

for what you would spend on a S/C you can drop about the same a get a Jasper 350 from a 1986 caprice. I have one in my camaro for 3K definetly faster than the 305 HO and with the 3.73 and 5 spd stick it puts a hurting on my 87 IROC with the 350. Also it's only sitting at about 8.3:1 compression so you can always boost it later with a 144. (I'm working on the Buying a Blower part right now). 2 things I recommend, Buy a nice 2 plane manifold like an Edelbrock and get a decent set of headers.

For what it's worth, I found a guy locally who will rebuild my CC carb for about $150. If you can find the same, you'll save more money than you thought.
