cog belt lower pulley

cog belt lower pulley
I just had this made. It has 81 teeth and it is made for a 50mm wide belt. We copied the ATI lower pulley dimensions so it would be a bolt on to the orig. spacer. We didn't make any Idlers or uppers as they can be easily bought from ATI. There are more pics of it here.

I noticed my ATI kit came with idlers that look big enough to fit the 12 rib belt. will they fit your new cog belt too? o will even larger idlers be required?

My 12 rib idler measures 2.200 inside the side rails. The 50mm belt measures 1.968. I was hoping to use them but do not know if the *sides* are high enough to keep the belt tracking correctly. If you noticed we cut a relief in the pulley for side rails if we need them to keep the belt in line. If anybody is interested in one we made the program so we should be able to make some more a little cheaper than this one cost.

COOL! going to make some upper pullies next? you were able to find a belt ok? what would we be looking at for an 40 tooth upper/ 81 tooth (like you have) lower with side guards and belt?

You can buy upper pullies from ATI so we did not make them. I have a belt but have not mocked mine up yet. I will keep you informed. Price? I will let you know how much when we get all the costs in. If a couple of people wanted them it would bring the costs down on the aluminum. I am trying to find a cheaper place to buy the aluminum. A 9x8 6061 chunk of aluminum cost me $160.00!! You can only buy belts in a few different lengths. This is not going to be a inexpensive deal! I am doing it so I do not have to run so much tension as it puts to much side load on the crank.

I'm curious as to why you had an 81-tooth crank pulley fabbed when ATI makes it??? I have one.
Also, you cannot use the 12-rib idlers with a cog belt. A cog belt is held in place by the idlers as the cogs themselves do not have shoulders. The shoulders on a 12-rib idler are not close to being tall enough.

I forgot, Idlers are used to hold cog belts in place only because it is easier to make the cog pulley without shoulders.

I dont like the ATI pullies, they are much wider and require fan, idler, and the pulley changes. I see ford guys running a cog belt that is only as wide as our 12 rib pulleys, why cant we? It is my intention whether through this post or through a local CNC machinist to have a set of pulleys made from the pattern of a belt that I will find that is the same or close to the width of the idlers I already have and that will fit within the confines of a 12 rib setup. It will also need to have the belt guides/side guards like the ford guy can get. Why should I get the ATI ones if they 1st) dont fit my requirements, 2nd) are much more expensive than comparable aftermarket units for other cars?
I have also contacted ASP (Auto Specialties) a while back and they said they would do it, all I would have to do is provide some dimensions. I think spending a couple dollars more to have it done locally would be worth it just to have more control over the process.
