OK all you DSM owners

Hey I just picked up a TD05H eclipse turbo. I was told it's a big 16G turbo, but how can i tell the difference between a stock eclipse turbo, a regular 16G, or a big 16G????

I'm not a DSM guy, so I'm sure that there is better info out there, but maybe I can get you started. As far as I can tell there are 2 16G's, a TD05 and a TD06, with different compressor maps, the TD06 is slightly larger (probably good for 10-20hp more). Neither is a big turbo, both flow about in the same range as the typical 60 trim T3

Yeah, but how can I tell just by looking at the turbo itself? Are there any measurments or numbers i can check out on the turbo to tell which one it is?

1G DSM's didn't come with a 16G from the factory. The automatics got a 13G and the manuals got a 14G. Granted the JDM version did get a 16G but that doesn't apply to a US spec car.

A TD05H could be anything from a 16G up to a 20G. There isn't much difference between the 16G and the big16G.. just the compressor wheel and a clipped exhaust wheel.

Here is a pic of the compressor wheels (16G vs. b16G)

14b (not "g") would be the stock manual turbo for a 1g dsm, also not all JDMs got 16gs, I wish it was true, because then i'd have one after I replaced this:

Bah, I am a 2G guy.. are you going to preach about the crankwalk mystery next?

That is true about the JDM engines though, I forgot about that. Mainly because when I hear read JDM I tune out.. so they get better whatever.. get over it.

That is some nice damage though!.. break a timing belt?

Previous owner had the timing belt done at a shop. Moron mechanic left the crank sprocket bolt way loose, in/lb instead of ft/lb?? I dont know but it worked itself out untill the sproket escaped the crank key and was allowed to spin (or not) at whatever rate it wanted. Stranded on the side of the freeway I popped the timing belt inspection cover and all was well, was pretty confusing. When i got it home I saw the bottom and it was immediatly answered.

2g crankwalk mystery is potentially solved too

There are strong theorys anyway and some people who sell 'crank walk fixed' 7 bolts

you got scamed sell it. Its A regualer 14g.with a 5cm exhaust.
All TD05H eclipse turbo are 14g. The 16 g is much bigger on the out side. Its like double the 14g size. Also the blades Fines on a big 16 are 12 of them and theres only 6 on 14g.
