Install Brackets for S-Trim Vortec

Hi Guys, I am new to the board. I had bought a 92' convertible trans am with a 5.0 motor. I just picked up a Vortec S-trim bare with no bracket assembly. Does any one have any parts or know where to get them. I had called Vortec and the have a kit for 1,798.00. . I decided to piece it out here and there. Can anyone help?

i WAS THINKING OF HAVING SOME THINGS FABRICATED ALSO. IF I COULD GET AN INSTALLATION MANUEL OF SOME SORT i COULD VISUALLY SEE WHAT IS INVOLVED IN THAT. THEN OF COURSE I WOULD HAVE TO FIND SOMEONE CAPABLE OF MAKING THESE UP. THAT IS A GOOD THOUGHT THANKS FOR THE FEEDBACK

no problem., the good think is that it is already a serpentine car. you won't have to change the accesory drive like i had to. If you don't get a response on the classifieds, in a couple of days, i would re-post. Anyway, sometimes ebay sells s/c kit parts also.

The reason the kit is so expensive is because it comes with everything else to complete the setup like a secondary fuel pump, FMU, etc. I dont really think its worth that much $$, but you definately need to take that stuff into consideration when you install the S-trim on your 305. You cant just get the bracket, bolt it on, and hope it works. Leaning out your motor is bad. If you check out Vortechs website you'll find a parts list for a complete kit. That will give you an idea of whats included in the rest of the kit (minus the compressor) and how much work you have ahead of you.

If its an HD strim I have a bracket and Cog setup I could sell you...for waaayyyy less than 1700...

But you MUST have an HD s-trim or the cogs will destroy the bearings....

the thing is very thick 6061 alum ...somewhere on this board are pics of it....There was a post about adding a T-Trim to a car and I posted pics of the setup...

HD = Heavy duty.....you would have to check with vortech...You can have it upgraded but no need if its already HD...

heavy duty means it has better bearings in it whiich can take the stress of COG belt systems..... ALL bigger blowers are HD...but s-trim HD was an OPTION....

I sold my vortech blower setup so I cant tell yu weather my bracket would work with 6 rib pullies or not>??? I dont know... I would be wiling to split the stuff up but the bracket setup with COGS is the best of both worlds for sure...

OK if you can dig up those pictures. E-mail me at visusens@att.net
I really need a bracket set up and if you are willing to split it up that would be great. I'll call vortech to see if there is a bearing upgrade to my unit in the mean time. Thanks

I might be interested in buying the cogs. I need to check if my V1 S-Trim is a HD unit or not. Either way, I can send it in to Vortech like you said to have it upgraded. And to tell you the truth, I was thinking about sending it to them anyway just to have it checked out since it is extremely noisy (I like the loud whine but this is loud enough to make me think something might be broken). I'm also worried about belt clearance with the Griffin radiator and elec fans I plan to install. Got any measurements? Last question, will they work with the existing S-Trim Bracket?

I honestly dont know.... BUT I can take a measurement off of my crank pully versus where the 6 rib is on this one and let you know.... These pullies were custom made by ASP...so the crank pully as you can see is part of the cog pully...as in 1 aluminum piece...VS 2 pieces like the vortech base kit does...

Kenwood, I wont be able to use that bracket because of the custom setup that it is for. I can't see where I could use it to mount all of the existing pieces, Alternator and so forth. If I am going to fabricate a bracket I am probably going to need a picture of someones stock set up with the bracket to kind of get a feel for what I need to do. Hey Crazy, do you have any photos of your setup?

Thats cool...BUT fyi...the alternator is mounted to that bracket....Its in the same location as vortech has it...the only thing thats NOT there is a PS pump...

Essentially if you wanted all options the only thing to modify is 1 hole in the bracket for a vette PS pump and then a remote resivour...

because AC AIR and Belt driven waterpump would all be stock serpentine setup stuff.....Which is how the factory bracket is...

DONS car in some of the pictures HAS the factory vortech bracket..Its the steel bracket wil all of the holes in it..

again not trying to resell you on it Just pointing out the facts having owned BOTH SETUPS>>>

Just make yourself a pattern out of wood or cardboard… if you're having problems imagining how things are going to bolt to it get a piece of plywood the same thickness as the metal that you want to use and make a bracket out of that and once things are the way you want copy it in metal (or find someone that will do it for you, hell I'll do it out of aluminum if you have a pattern of what you want).

I am going to try to work it out. I am going to place it in the garage and start to experiment with a design. I will definitely take you up on that offer to make it up after I come up with a working design. Dont forget about me.
