Dyno Day!
We made a few pulls on the dyno today, things went as smooth as could be. I would like to thank a few people for there help... Lon and Bill from Second Street Speed, Jeff Kinsler (Pontiac Power!),Tory Hess, Glen Powell, and Keith Hartsoe. All these guys made the day possible, and with out there help I would not be where I am today.
Now that that is out of the way, we made a few pulls on the motor, made a wopping 300hp!(I believe 320 to be exact) It took about a minute and a half to hit 7000rpm. I was predicting 350 on the motor, but was not very dissapointed to fall short of my goals n/a. It was good for a laugh tho.
When the belt was installed the motor came alive. The end result was..... 741 hp with 19# of boost. We had the bigger pulley on earlier in the session, and made 717 hp with 17.9# but with the smaller pulley made over 140hp in the mid range (3800-5800) compared to the larger pulley.
This was with a 10.4-1 air fuel ratio. All figures are rear wheel, through a th400 and a 12 bolt.

nice man! good to see you still at it! I for my self am still trying to get a motor or fix the one i have. check out my post, see the damage! cyl # 5 is destroyed.; oh well, maybe a set of pistons and a hone and bearings will do the job. hey btw, what do you know about "wheeler" components? check the site and let me know what you think! www.wheelermotorsports.com Look at the performance series short block for me, not a bad price. worried about the components though. but they use good gaskets, bolts and bearings and they use a 10/10 gm crank. thanks don

Condradulations on the numbers. I would also like to know what and how much camshaft, what cylinder heads you are using, compression ratio, blower model, EFI system, injector size, and any other info you would care to divulge????

I have No personal experience with Wheeler, nor have I ever heard of them. Sounds like a good deal, but you are going to want something a little more S/C specific.
I know we have discussed this before, and it is a little bit out of your price range, but I am willing to sell you my short block for a measly $3000. It has just proven itself, with @ 900 fwhp and 7500rpm. It can handle just about anything you can throw at it!

The motor Is a 1987 production 1pc roller block splayed and filled to the freeze plugs. forged rotating assy, with 21cc dished s/c pistons. Compression is at 9.3-1 with the 57cc heads. The heads are fully ported Pontiac 867 castings w/titanium valves, and topped off with a jessel shaft mounted rocker setup. I am running a Victor super junior intake (for the tall port heads) ported and modified for f/i by Second Street Speed. A Vortech Mondo cooler, and Y/S- trim tops off the combo.
I am running a FAST efi system & 83lb/hr injectors. A MSD ignition system lights the fire.

Thanks for the info. I'm currently working on an F1R set-up, and was especially curious about the induction/EFI set-up used. Is the FAST EFI unit a bank-to-bank, or SEFI? This is also my EFI unit of choice, but I'm hearing different stories about how much actual HP a bank-to-bank system can accomodate, without having to upgrade to SEFI. I must say again that a real nice set-up you have, and DAMN thaat engine bay is clean!!!

Thanks for the compliments! I have spent a lot of time putting this thing together, and am very happy with the end results.
I am running a bank to bank setup with the wideband.
I am running an altenator, it is tucked away down low on the drivers side. And I am also running the CSI water pump with excelent results. With the factory radiator, CSI pump, and Ramchargers fan setup, the car never goes over 160* (and that is with the fans on low speed!) I have the FAST unit set to trigger the high speed if temps go over 175*.

Save up about 2999 more dollars, and it is yours!
The dyno was doing all the loging, and I did not think to look at the IAT's. I will data log iat's at the track and let you know.
I can tell you one thing, the discharge tube was not hot at all, but it is coated, so it is hard to say. I'll have to get back to you on that one.

Here is a pic (sorry, no scanner). as you can see in this graph, the A/F was 10.4-1. on this pull, it lost the blower belt at 7600rpm. The small spikes in the upper rpm was signs of the belt skipping teeth. It is clearly visible on the video.

Is your discharge tube as well as the rest of the tubing aluminum or steel? You mentioned it was coated so I am guessing that it's steel? I'm also interested in camshaft spec if you might care to share them. I would image it's a solid roller, but what kind of lift and duration, and who made it? Is it an off-the-shelf cam, or is it custom?

The guys that ran your dyno run can reproduce it on a floppy in bitmap form for you. HOLY RICH! take a tiny bit o' fuel out the huge end and that baby would have even more in it (B4Ctom1 is a dyno jet tuner in recovery), I way believe in fat power adder stuff, but that is obese It's amazing to think how much

Sorry I missed this. I was on vacation last week.
You know, unless it was on a Mustang Dyno, then rich is GOOD.
Ive been told that Mustang Dyno's load the cars truer to real road driving/racing as compared to a dynojet. When you get it on the road, you typically have to add a little fuel, if tuned on a dynojet.
Id say he has it setup pretty good!

I've said it before but I'll say it again, nice setup. Good numbers too. I cant wait to see what it will do at the track. I hope you get us some cool wheels up photos!
I started to ask a question about how you came up with such great numbers then I decided not to be lazy and open up maximum boost to find the formula so I could do the math. Its pretty cool (pun intended) what an air to water intercooler can do for you. You have a pressure ratio of 2.31 with a power ratio of 2.29. That folks is what 105-110% density ratio from air to water intercooling gets you.
Anyway, sweet setup.
