Supercharging an 86 V-belt TA
I want to supercharge my 86 TA. The only prob is that I haven't seen any kits for 85 - 87 tpi motors because they have a V-belt set up instead of a serpentine. My question is what is needed to convert a V-belt car to serpentine, and can I leave my MAF or do I need to change to speed density. Also how much would this cost?
P.S. I would either go with a procharger or a vortech.

86-87 cars have that weird v-belts plus a serpentine on the alternator type setup. I haven't found any company that makes a bolt on blower kit for it, either.
Converting to serp- get the whole front end sertp off an 88-up motor- brackets, pulleys, accessories, everything. Alternator and A/C swap sides so the alternator wires will need to be rerouted, possibly extended. The A/C you will need appropriate hoses if you intend to keep using it.
I haven't done this upgrade although I did a bunch of research a while back in preparation for doing it on an 87 GTA.

Damon is totally correct. I've done the conversion myself on my '87. I should add that you can reuse the air pump only. All other accessories from a 305 '85 - '87 will not bolt up to the '88 - '92 serpentine system.
Also, you do not have to convert to speed density. This has nothing to do with the serpentine conversion. Click on "SC Z!!" in my sig, then on the Supercharger link. You'll see pics of a 1987 305 (MAF) with a 1992 serpentine system and a D1SC ProCharger.

ok so i need the whole serpentine set up off of an 88 or newer car. is it a pain in the butt to put on? is there anything that needs to be fabricated or does it bolt straight up? Oh yeah, can I take the serpentine set up off a 89 RS 305 throttle body injected car or does it have to be a TPI car. There is a wrecked car down the street that the guy is parting out.
Thanks for the help...

Yes. The 1988 has one additional support brace at the top of the alternator. This brace is not necessary -- that's why GM removed it in 1989.

As far as the brackets and accessories, it's purely a bolt-on. You will have to modify the wiring because of the "new" alternator and A/C compressor locations.

Comparing TBI and TPI serpentine systems, there's only one support brace that's different. The lucky thing is the one you'll need for a TPI is still available from GM. Hope this helps.

Willie your car has so many things on it that i have never seen before it is unreal what gave you the idea to do all of those? Awsome car!
Thanks. All my "gadgets" were not thought of all at once, believe me. It was a progressive thing.
