What small block nawwws setups are you running? How are they working for ya?

Hi! im considering running n2o on my 86 ta...ya i plan on sfc.s,2500 stall, beefing up this and that, etc etc. I understand the basic principals of n2o. I know stuff needs to be changed to hold up,but ive never used the stuff personally and need input, not a smart comment or another a-hole telling me to search for something i cant find(why did he think i posted?darrrr). WHat are you running? I plan on a 150 shot to start with, mabye adjust it to 200 after awhile(using nos"cheater"kit adjustable form 150-250 hp).I want to run a 78 chevy 350 small block 4 bolt...not sure on the valve sizes yet...hopefully the intakes are 2.02(would it make a whole krapload of difference if they were 1.92"?)...what compression ratio, piston+rod combos, and crank are you guys all running with your n2o???id imagine a steel crank is a good idea(does a stock old up tho?)....i have a new set of eagle polished rods from summit with arp bolts...would they hold up to a 150-200 shot of n2o?I plan on running a comp cam, springs, etc(thier nitrous hp series)that makes power from 2500-6500 rpm,and is specifically made to be used with a 125+ shot of n20..it also has a very rough idle(daddy likes lumpy mmmm lol)Im hoping my torker 2 open intake will work well with this stuff as well.I figured my new powdercoated 600 holley will have to go in favor of a 650 or 700 cfm dual inlet carb. I think my idea is on the right track,i just want to know what some other folks are running, and thier poinions and comments about thier setups(i.e. what they wouldnt buy again, what they would do different ,etc)
thanks!!!! please only people that want to really help reply,if you want to makea smart a$$ comment do it on another post please

Car: 1982 Z28
Engine: 355
Transmission: T56
Axle/Gears: 12 Bolt
355,10:1 Manley forged full floating pistons(.024" ring gap first and second ring),Summit/Pro Line 4340 forged crank & rods,Comp XE274 cam,1.5 Pro Magnum roller rockers,Weiand Stealth dual plane,Speed Demon 750 DP,AFR 195(64cc) heads with 2.02/1.60 valves,Summit HEI with MSD 6AL.Nitrous Express Hitman Plus plate system with MSD RPM activated window switch for solenoid activation.I am very happy with NX to date.Right now I run a 100 shot but next summer plan to go higher when I get back to the track.A stock crank & rods can take nitrous up to a certain increase..I would go no higher than a 150 shot with stock.Others have done it..I am not that brave so I went forged when I built this motor for more juice.I can't say much on the torker intake, had one many years ago but don't remeber much about it besides it was on a very mismatched motor back then.As far as a carb..if you are gonna spray..go at least with a 750 for that motor, any smaller and you will be walking a fine line of disaster

Hey onebad82z,

> WHat are you running?

My mods are in my sig.

> I plan on a 150 shot to start with, mabye adjust it to 200 after

Nice choice for a kit. For every 50hp of nitrous you inject into your motor, you *should* retard your timing 2 degrees. I run a 150hp shot and don't change my timing, but that's me.

> the valve sizes yet...hopefully the intakes are 2.02(would it
> make a whole krapload of difference if they were 1.92"?)

You're definatly going to want bigger valves if you're going to rev this motor with or without nitrous.. Nitrous likes flow, especially on the exhaust side of things. A camshaft with more duration and lift on the exhaust lobe would be a plus.

> ...what compression ratio,piston+rod combos,and crank are

I was running about 11:1 compression with my old heads but blew a head gasket as soon as I jumped my nitrous jets from 100hp to 150hp. I would recommend a nice 9.5:1 or 9.0:1 ratio for 150hp+ shot of juice. I'm around 9.3:1 and have had no problems with the 150 shot.

>id imagine a steel crank is a good idea(does a stock old up

I'm only running a fresh stock bottom end with cast flat tops, but lord knows how long it will last.

I run the Comp Cams NX284H-13 (240/253, .507/.525). It works real well on the juice, but I find it lacks performance on its' own.

I'm a big fan of the Vic Junior and then the Performer RPM.

I would suggest a Holley 750 vac sec dual feed carb.

It's hard for me to get a vision of where you're at and where you're going with what you've told us so all I can do is share what I know.

The one thing I should never have done was get rid of my forged bottom ended 400 sb motor.. That was dumb.

Cheers,

they even stole the cheapo jap socket set in my car,i have no sockets now at all ( They even took the rachet i had on the ground with my 3/8 allen,so i cant finish my rear brakes
damn thieves!!!!
now my garage has 3 deadbolts, and a 6' tall 1/4 plate bolted to the door latch beam
oh well thats life...nowe ill get nicer tools lol

Upon blowing up my good block trying to make a pass
with the charger and a 100 shot - on that pass I ran 10.32
@ 133 with a 2.1 60 ft (lots of spin) should have gone high 9's.
After that pass I replaced that block with a stocker out of my old truck, put on my heads, cam and 100 shot only (no charger)
10.89@ 125
