Adding intercooler to vortech car
I have an 88GTA with a vortech s-trim. I also have carrol supercharging waterinjection kit. I am not convinced that it does what it is suposed to do. I have a custom eprom for the car. My knock sensor is still pulling 10 degrees out. Before it was even more. The chip helped, also ihave 30lb injectors.I believe that most of my problem lies in the air temps.I have seen air temps into the 180 marks if I remember correctly. What do you guys think?

Joe,
We need more info.
1) What is your total timing at WOT?
2) What is your O2 reading at WOT?
3) What octane gas are you using?
4) How much boost and at what rpm?

6-7 lbs of boost at about 3500-4500
o2 are up in the low 900mv
timing i think was about 32.5 at wot
94 octane
the car is not running right now so i cant take it out and get some hard nimbers , if this doesnt help i will have to wait till the car is going again.

Things seem to be in order. A couple of more questions I forgot to ask the first time:
1) What water/alcohol mix are you using?
2) At what point do you spray the water?
3) What size jet (H2O) are you using?
4) Where is the jet located?

Joe,
I hope you don't mind me asking all these questions. I need to rule out any obvious possibilities first. The one difference I see between your setup and mine is the H2O nozzle size. I'm using a 14-gph nozzle. I'm sure if you went to a similar sized nozzle, some of the knock you're getting will be eliminated. But like you said, air inlet temps of 180 degrees + really hurts. With my "old" intercooler setup (more later), I used to see air temps about 110 at the start of a run and peak out at about 130 (without H2O). With the intercooler and H2O, I NEVER saw air temps over 100 degrees on 90 degree days!! And that's 14-psig boost too!!
So I believe an intercooler setup will work wonders for you. BTW, I have a third gen three-core IC setup for sale. It includes all the piping (as seen under the car) including the two pieces that run up the inner fenders to the engine compartment and all hoses with clamps. I'll throw in a $175 ATI air scoop for the IC too. If you're interested, please e-mail me. I have attached a pic of the entire setup.
