Nitrous Racing Techniques

Still haven't used the NOS yet but I'm wondering what techniques to use? When should I hit the NOS? I don't want to use it too long? Should I still shift my automatic transmission or just leave it in drive and hit it? I have no idea??? Help!!!

I try to simplify things. My method(works for me) hook up a microswitch on the carb where when your at wide open the switch trips. Then when you arm the solenoids and floor it, it's wide open, nitrous on. If it gets to loose and you lift it turns the nitrous off, then if you get in it again the nitrous is on. This way the nitrous is only on at wide open throttle. As for shifting, if done this way I just watch the tach and shift like normal.
