wacked out 400

I have been contemplating this engine setup for a while and i still don't know what to think of it.

400 small block bored .030 over
3.00" crank
making the motor a 325"

and about 8.0 to 1 compression.

but i would put some t4 turbos on the thing.

i was thinking that the short stroke would rev up quite nicely and would be able to play with the turbos at high rpms

has anybody done this...

or is this just a crazy idea

That's a super long rod. The cylinder should fill very well with that engine geometry. The only thing I'm concerned about is that you're sacrificing some cubes for higher engine speed. I don't know how high you want to go, but a 400 with a 6 inch rod and stock stroke keeps the rods good to 8000 RPM all day long. It's going to be tough keeping the valve train together after that. With the config you're talking about you'll never throw a rod, but you'll be chasing valve float all day. Build it and it'll be one of a kind. I can tell you that for sure.

They make 377 kits too, (400 bore 350 stroke) I've heard it's a better revver than a 350, but you'd have more cubes/torque also. That's what I
want to do, sounds like a win / win senario.

I've heard of 400s destroked as far as 35x..but thats it. Obviously not a street motor.

a Stock 400 block won't hold up to the stress an engine like you're talking about to begin with. You'd have to use a Little M block or something similar.

well when i have money someday, i will build it. but not now.

perhaps later on i can always stuff the engine full of titanium stuff and see if i can find some dual over head cam heads for it,

OR

i can always go the LS route with the aluminum block and stuff.

well thanks

I have a 377. Stock 400, 2 bolt block, but the best of everything else. Its going to hit the dyno late next week and WILL break the 600 hp mark. The only question is how much more than 600 will it go. Setup right, studded, balanced, etc, it will live. They are just not easy to do as garage built motors. When I get the dyno sheets, I will post them.
