knock sensor problems
Hey guys-
My setup is in my sig. My problem is that thy knock sensor is being tripped and it is retarding the timing. I believe that the "noise" from my supercharger is doing this. I have all new components in the ignition, and have base timing set to 8 degrees, and my spark plugs look like brand new. The scanner we are using also doesn't tell how muck timing is retarded.
Would I be ok bypassing the knock sensor with a resistor, or are there more accurate sensors available for this kind of problem?
Thanks for any help guys
Matt

try replacing it, they wear out usually by becoming less sensitive but I have seen them go the other way. the most common problem I see on knock sensors is over tightening. most cars it is 12-14 ft lbs (consult a manual). you can sometimes tighten them tighter than that with your hands. so be careful. also the sealant is supposed to be a "special" kind of acustical conductor or something, so when I remove them I replace them.

I know Willie bypasses the knock sensor when he is running the car. But he has many other monitors to tell him what is what.
Willie highly recommends an Auto Xray scanner to see what retard and other crucial readings you get during a run.
What kind of 1/4 mile times are you running???

I'll look into the x-ray scanner. As far as the sensor goes, I just bypassed it with a 3.9k ohm resistor. My stock one aslso tested out to be bad.
My car was clocking a high 13 in the quarter mile before the supercharger, but that is also when my dad was driving it (he is a bit more experienced than me). With the charger I am hoping for a high 12 second 1/4.
Also, what do those xray scanners cost?
thanks,
Matt
