Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
Hey Guys been awhile since ive updated the site on my cars progress but i can finally say goodbye to telling myself "ill get it done for next summer". The links below should get you up to speed with the project but since i last posted about the car, i changed the cam out for someing a little more streetable and had the car retuned by Cal Hartline. The car now idles nicely at 850 and drives like it did from the factory. Only thing thats needed now is for fridays test and tune to not get rained out and i should have some numbers for on friday.
Specs: Built 383 short block, Brodix Track 1's, 8-1 compression, Holley HSR fully port matched, Turbonetics BB 61mm turbos .82a/r, Tial BOV, Dual Tial 38mm wastegates, Custom fabbed headers and pluming, full dual 3.5inch exhaust

I went with the Motown block from world and filled it with a scat crank, eagle rods and srp pistons.

The way it sits now on the 19's it wont hook 1st 2nd or third but if you baby forth it will hook. Gotta find some better tires but drag radials are hard to come by in the size i need. Ive got a 295/35/19 BFG on the back right now and could make a 305 fit but only sticky tire available in those sizes that iv found so far is a toyo r888. Hoping that someone will start making more 19inch drag radials.

Good luck with traction and 19's...been there done that and not near your power.
Very impressive man. That much power on 24psi is pretty darn good. And your doing it on a stealth ram intake! makes me wish I didnt sell mine because I was worried about air distribution with it but apparently it still works well

Nice power and tune. Why the eagle rods and not Scat?
I don't see air distribution being a problem on any intake as long as you tune for the leanest hole. That is what I do with my LT1 intake that some claim has problems. I see the HSR or any front mount TB kind of having that problem. You just lose a little HP on the fatter holes.

Well yeah that makes sense but how lean is the leanest hole from the richest? Thats my concern. Short of installing a wideband on each port, its hard to tell what is the leanest and how far the spread is. Checking plugs isnt as easy on some setups...especially mine
How much meth is being sprayed at 24 psi? I just got a pump but need nozzles. Havent called the vendor yet for their recommendation

McMaster Carr has nozzles for a decent price depending on how yo make your nozzle setup. What I learned is it is pretty easy to over inject it without any performance loss. Just a waste of alky.

Anyways for this last dyno session i just slapped a fresh set of plugs in to the car first thing in the morning and only pulled them out after the last pull. Pulling the plugs is so involved and we just didnt have the time to unstrap and get under the car to get the plugs after each pull. Its not a fun job on a cold motor, so on a hot motor your accepting the fact that your walking away with burns of somekind after a plug change.
As for the choice of rods, they were a part that was purchased early on in the build before the the idea 1000 to the wheels started to become more acheivible. As with all projects theres always going to be a few things that you would do differently once you hit the finish line.
For meth im running an AlkyControl Dual nozzel kit with the **** set halfway. Honestly give Julio a call @ 813 265 1400 and pick his brain. He's super helpful and not one of those guys that will turn you away cause your not running his product. Ive installed countless kits up here for buick gn guys without issues. Oh and i know some people like to mix water and meth but i personally only ever run 100% methanol. After running 30psi on the stock bottom end of a buick GN ive seen first hand how well a single nozzel meth kit works with pure meth and i wouldnt mess around with mixing it.
Josh, Check the links in my first post for build info. I didnt actaully start a build thread when starting this build but the links above should fill you in on most of what when on. Theres still a fair bit that i want to post about just have to find collect photos and do it. But if feel free to ask if theres anything you want to know about.

I wish I never sold my HSR but I was just abit nervous after seeing what my nitrous system did on the HSR...the rear cylinders were noticeably richer with carbon buildup. Now it may have just been the nitrous nozzle spraying too hard and just skipping the front cylinders...hard to say. I just wasnt planning on XFI sequential type EFI at the time and still using batch fire code $59. Distribution looked ok when I tore down the hotside this past winter but I never checked plugs after a WOT run and never did EGT or wideband o2 analysis on individual cylinders. But I like the single plane, works well for me so far.
I'll have to give Julio a call or one of the vendors. I think my pump is a Snow pump, but not sure. Its not installed yet as I'm still doing pump gas only tunes at the moment
Your car is gonna fly tho. Any chance you will take it to a track to see what it will trap?

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
They did, but theres lots of alternatives to solve that problem. And if you call and ask julio, im sure he would sell you the fittings he used to make the factory coolant tank work. Ive actually got my tank from julio sitting on a self somewhere. i used a 2gallon race cell and mounted it and the pump at the rear of the car.
Orr89RocZ, My plugs dont sound that bad compared to yours. There all very tight to get at and i have to get 5 from under the car, but I definitely dont have to pull downpipes to get at them.
Now that you mention that about the nitrous jet it kinda makes me worry a bit about the distribution of methanol on my setup. Never really thought about that and definitely something to take a closer look at. Its always nice to have other opinions on my setup to help trouble shoot possible issues that i may not even thought of.
I was hoping to track it today but its raining so ill have to wait for the next test and tune day which is in a couple weeks and believe.

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
Yeah i had a single nozzle about 6" from TB opening. 900-950psi nitrous pressure, 48psi fuel pressure and my rear intake plenum was noticeably covered in fuel compared to front, and the piston tops were noticeably darker on the rear 2 cylinders each bank compared to the others toward the front. Just something I noticed that may or may not have been from WOT operation. Rear intake fuel spray may have been from the nozzle, it also could have been mostly oil from the PCV which I had in the middle of the intake plenum. I wasnt as dark as oil usually is tho. Piston discoloration could have been from idle or part throttle distribution problems...not sure. Just something to watch out for.

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
What A/r did you go with on your new turbos and how are you finding the spool is? Im running .82 a/r but now wish i had gone .69 to spool abit quicker. another thing ive got to try is running co2 with my AMS boost controller, im hoping that may speed up the spool.

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
I kept the same .68 a/r, t4's. Spool is the same as before but its abit dependant on the tune. I had tried a few different tunes and some air fuel ratios are better than others. Right now my AE is overly rich so when I stab it, there is a bit of delay before things start getting out of hand. It goes too rich and bogs. If i roll into the throttle to avoid the pumpshot effect, it stays lean as it approaches 85-90 kpa and 3200-3500 rpm before starting to drift towards mid low 12's to 1 in the low boost region, then mid 11's in higher boost. That lean spot lights up the turbines near instantly its insane. I just have to tune the AE effect out. My tune with the 60mm turbos last year was pretty much near instant boost. Its cool at the track when on the footbrake but on the street its hard to hook up, i'd prefer a slower ramp rate.
I was going to go with the .96's i have laying on the shelf but they are 1/4" wider and would screw up my wastegate alignment so I will have to cut the pipes and move it back alittle to use it. I wasnt ready to do that so I kept my .68's.
I dont have any measurements for backpressure in my manifolds so I'm not sure how much they are hurting me. Then again i have relatively small heads/cam for this motor so they may not hurt to much at medium boost levels

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
I think .96 would be way to laggy. My tune is dialed in but the boost curve is very smooth starting from 0psi at roughly 3000rmp and hits 24psi at 5600rpm. You can pretty much draw a straight line through those points on a graph and thats my curve. i think my setup would be better suited with a auto trans behind it, it would stay right in the power band.

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
yeah I got a big 4200 stall or so PTC converter so when I get on it, it flashes high and stays there...goes from 0-10 psi almost instantly. Converters help get things spinning.
As long as you are geared right, once you get into peak boost and shift gears, it shouldnt drop off too much if you can stay in the powerband. Between the gear ratio spread and the rear gear ratio, i'm not sure how far down the rpms will drop but if shift quickly, maybe it will stay on high boost? I have never been over 18psi but it doesnt seem to matter if i run 8 or 18 psi, when I floor it, it gets to peak boost in a hurry. Whether its all converter or .68 a/r, its hard to say. I wanted .8's but master power doesnt make them anymore and not sure if other vendors will fit.

Re: Project Complete (Finally) Dyno Video
Just looking at the dyno graph your power rises pretty smoothly and then levels out. Looks like boost comes on pretty linear like you said. That may not be a bad thing on the street when trying to hook up. Looks like it peaks around 5800 but its pretty flat between 5K and 6K. How big is the cam?

Yeah the power band pretty much levels off once it hits 24psi. cam is 236/236@.050 .600/.600 on 115 lob sep
