i am thinking of maybe installing a loud gear drive. i like my procharger d1sc but it doesnt give enough whine. will this work with my knock sensor because i have heard the quite ones work with it but the loud ones dont? which one is a good brand to go with too?

This is a milodon gear drive (single idler, alu case) but I'm pretty sure it would upset most any knock sensor/ESC.

I have a Pete Jackson "noisey" on my '90 Chev C1500 for the past 3 years and haven't had any problems.

I had a noisy summit one on my car for 300 miles. It just made alot of noise i didnt want coming from the engine so took it out and put in a dubble roller chain then it was much better! I also didnt like to slop in the gear drive it was alot compared to chain.

maybe i should consider the quiet one then. it sounds like the noisy one gets annoying.

yeah mine did get annoying. you could hear it over long tube headers and purple hornies.. Its all what you want tho your car.

I had a noisy set in my race car for one day before yanking it out and putting a good chain back in.

If you want that blower whine sound, put a blower on the engine.

I had one of these in a 70 nova with a big cam and 350, and everywhere i went someone asked me if my power steering was low on fluid. They are designed for real high horse power applications where very accurate timing is required. They claim that there is no power loss from one of these gear drives but I took mine back out and put in a double roller chain and could tell the difference in quicker revs. Dont waste your money.

Most engines I see that make the big power that can "benefit" from a gear drive, run a belt drive. I use a belt.

I agree with all above, it's silly noise (some like it, and to each, their own), stick with a chain.

Nope. All the real high HP applications use a belt drive system. They're expensive but they're far superior to a chain or gears.

As for accurate timing, a crank trigger is used.

well smarty pants when these things were first introduced it was about 40 years ago, when there wasnt any jessel belt drives.

Sure 40 years ago, they were better than factory chains. 40 years ago, double hump heads were the best heads available and dual point distributors were also the best things to use.

Technology has changed. Just because old technology worked in the past doesn't mean it's what you should be using now.
