FMIC measurement answer
ok people thank me later, but for now I would like to show you what happens if you get rid of the A/C and decide to put a FMIC in front of the radiator. This is the room for the most part you will have. what I dont have here is a "depth" or core thickness measurement. If I remember I will add one later. I do know there is less room at the bottom than at the top.
let me know if this helps.
if you look in the center of the picture at the top it is lower near the latch area. also all measurments were done with a tape measure but still are approximations because I did not repeat the measurement all along the area to make sure there is not a +/- along the way.

as you can see my car is already equiped with a 3 core ATI procharger intercooler. As you can see in the top picture it is shrouded some by the factory venting. I made these measurements for future use in case I decide to run a regular FMIC. I may just pull some of the venting out.

oh please do, see if you can do the same for the front. show if you can how much space in front between the clip and the front of the clip if any.

Would that be considered a "bmic" (bottom mount intercooler)? I always thought of front mounts as vertical (same plane as rad.) in front of the radiator. Maybe I'm just cranky from these allergies...
I had some pictures of the Spearco 2-182 core that got lost in cyberspace, but http://www.skulte.com/intercooler.html has a few before the core was mounted. It's set up w/ 3" in/out on the sides, where the piping goes just above the bumper brackets and below the Camaro headlights.

Hi B4Ctom1,
Very good thread! Here is my .02 cents;
I dont have measurements, but I did measure my intercooler which is located just between the stock steel front bar and the clip. The intercooler is 46" long x 8" in height with a 2" core, tanks are 2 1/2" in width. Both the inlet and outlet of the IC are pointed downwards, sorry no space for fog lights. If the intercooler would have been a bit shorter I would have been able to re-install the fog lights. I also bend the intercooler slightly in a curved like shape to match the front stock steel bar. Opps, almost forget, I removed the plastic parts attached to the bar to make space.
Hope this helps to anyone,
Edgardo

Andris how did you know how to make that bar fit in such a blind place? bend and fit to the nose, then figure out the offset from the front of the car?
Do you think it cut weight as well?
did it give enough support to the nose to prevent it from distorting during highway driving?

I measured the angles on the outside of the nose, inside width, and then bent the bumper to fit. It's fairly quick if you've got a bender. It's been a while since I did that, so this might not be correct. I think I bolted the nose and bumper bar back on, then made the legs supporting the bumper bar, and welded that in place.
I'm not sure what the weight is, but it didn't feel much different than stock, since I wanted to have some protection when racing.
The front of the nose does not distort at all, but rather the top sags a bit (from the middle ridge line on either side). This is a repro nose, not OEM GM.

That's going to be a lot simpler than getting mine to fit. I would like to get that done this winter too.....

I really wish it was 24x15x3.5 but the price was right.
$250 for this compaired to $500ish for a core in the size I would have liked.

Here is a couple pictures of my setup. Intercooler measures : 31" x 12" x 3" I had to make a spacer for the Top Radiator / Fan mount to move the Radiator back toward the engine to make room.

With the way I plan to drop the bottom Radiator mout out and lower my Griffin Rad to be flush onder the top support I cant run my IC like the above pic's.
I want the rad hiden under the support as my #1 priority. I'll deal with doing my IC tubes from under.

You guys really think those are better mounting locations that ATI ?
I'm curious how much air will actually flow through them, or are you planning on running the fans pretty much constant?
The only other issue, is it doesnt leave much room for the oil cooler.

Should flow fine this way. thats how 90% of the Turbo setups are.
Still pleanty of room for a Oil cooler in my setup. Theres still a few inches between the FMIC and the Griffin Alum Rad.
Why run the fans all the time? The airflow for the Rad is still there with the lower air damm. and the FMIC from the front and under also.
Should be just fine.

exact same one as mine. Just a diff. Company.
Do a search on OBX on the LS1 and turbomustang boards. Verry similar FMIC and people get good results out of them.

i put mine further foward so i could keep the ac in the car(ended up taking it out for the weight anyway though lol),dont have the ic measurements off hand but it fits nice ,with no ground clearance issues
it sits higher then the front gfx by about 2 inches and hits the were the hood latch closes, the only thing i didnt think about was the hood safty latch,i had to remove mine to make the hood close but since i have a bolton cowl hood i just got pins for it
