how to put back spare tire setup?

hey guys.

my car is always in project mode but im finally getting around to putting the jack stand and a new aluminum donut spare and i have these hardware bolts and screws made for our cars that i bought on ebay as a set.

problem is im having trouble figuring out how it all comes together to hold everything in the place.

i can get the jack stand in place but when it comes to holding the spare tire in its kinda tough and its tough enough yanking the tire in and out with the jack in the way.

any pictures or suggestions would help guys

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

come on guys no body?

i got this long bolt with a hook on one end.

a short bolt with a loop or ring(circle) on one end

a silver thing that twists onto one of the bolts

a circlular dish that goes in the center to hold the tire.

so in what combo does it all come together.

a photo would be great

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

Not sure about the short bolt with the ring, but ...

Tire into well, then hooked end goes through center of tire, there should be a ring attached to the car body (maybe the short bolt with the ring you have), the hook 'hooks' into the ring, then the circle disc goes on the threaded end of the long bolt with hook, then the 'silver thing' screws onto the threads - tighten it down so the spare doesn't rattle.

I'll have to look to see where/how the jack is placed. I'll get ya a pic.

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

Ooops! Brother in law borrowed cam - sorry.

I want to say that there is a stud sticking out maybe in front of where the tire goes, and there is a hole in the jack - jack goes over stud, and another spinner holds it on that threaded stud - I remember the jack spinner being plastic with a metal insert that threads onto the stud. I'll have to look tomorrow for you, it's getting dark here lol.

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

thanks,

thats how i had it before but now im trying to put the jackstand in and that circle thing is the confusing part. i cant get the hook part through to hook onto the loop cuz theres very litttle wiggle room or none. then the hook bolt is sticking out too much that i cant get tire in the wheel well. i try puttting in the jack stand then the looop bolt then the tire but the i have no room to get the hook in and finish the installation

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

The spare goes in so that the backside (deep side) of the spare is against the fender, then the spare won't hit the ringed bolt that the hook goes through.

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

Oh - wait - you mentioned aluminum spare - is it the one with a spoke look to it as opposed to a black painted rim with circular holes? Is it flat and requires the can of air to fill it if it's used? If so, that may be a whole new ball game then - I've never seen the aluminum spare installed.

The Jack and tool are mounted to the car with a short rod with a black cap, and the spare tire has the rod with a loop on it to tighten it down.

Anyone have...or know where I can get the bolts to hold everything in place? Need to the 2 hook end bolts and the one that holds the jack in place. Posed up on interior parts wanted....

Were you able to get your's in. I can take a pic of the diagram that shows how everything is arranged.

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

It appears there are two different type stowage depending on tire types and jacks. IIRC, the "long" type is a ratchet type, the shorter jack is a screw/scissor type.

Attached is a diagram of the stowage with a ratchet jack. The hold down arrangement is quite similar between the two.

FWIW, here's my spare install. I think I've taken it out of the car twice. There's also a curved plastic "shoe" that the spare sits on when it's stowed.

Re: how to put back spare tire setup?

The plastic spare tire rest came in cars that were equipped with a space save spare tire.I see them occasionally in junkyard cars
