Custom Side Marker Lights!
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Here’s my story….
I know most of you LOVE clear side marker lights on your Firebirds. I, on the other hand, detest them. I think smoked clear looks okay. I also HATE the red side marker lights on the rear of my firebird. I’ve always wanted smoked amber for the front and rear side markers. (I think it matches my gold GTA wheels and gold GTA badges.) However, I’m a spaz with paint, so VHT nightshades is out of the question for me for the front. Plus, you can’t paint the red rear side marker lights amber.
Recently, I’ve been working with a manufacturer to have custom smoked amber lenses produced for my front and rear side markers. He already has the molds for the rears but will need to build custom molds for the front.
Attached, please find some sample colors he should be able to produce. I’m asking about reds and smoked reds as options for the rear side markers.
Truth be told, you can get clear/smoked front side markers on eBay for $17, whereas these custom lenses will probably run $45 for the front set and $45 for the rear set. (I can probably talk down the price if we get enough people to order.)
Although the front lenses are a dime-a-dozen on ebay, you cannot order them in whatever color you want (ex. smoked amber). Furthermore, rear side markers are impossible to find. If you go this route, you can get your fronts and rears in any color you want. (I reccomend getting smoked amber if you have gold GTA wheels or smoked if you have a blacked out car).
If Camaros use the same side markers as firebirds, Camaro owners can get in on this too.
Let me know if you are interested. If so, I’ll try to get a group purchase going.
P.S. Be advised, to install these lenses, you’ll need to separate your old lenses from the housings and glue these new ones in their place. (I'm not sure if that's the case with the eBay ones.)
Thanks!
Bill

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
front markers are the same across the board i believe,
do we have an estimated price point for these(ie. set of fronts, or set of fronts and rears)
id get smoked for my RS and Red for my Iroc if they become available at an affordable price
EDIT: found the estimated price, overlooked it the first time, guess i would have to only get the Iroc some in Red since i can get smoked on ebay

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
Got some more info for you guys and gals...
First, the molds for the rear lenses are already completed. So, if you want to buy rear lights, you're in luck.
However, if the manufacturer is going to produce the front side marker lenses, he'll need to get 5 people to pay in advance. I'm in, so we only need 4 more people with cash in hand.
I THINK the price for a pair of front lenses or for a pair of rear lenses will be $45. If you purchase both a set of fronts AND a set of rears, the cost is $80. (If more people buy, we might be able to get the price lower.)
The manufacturer can do just about any color any of us want. Attached, please find some more sample colors.
I'm looking forward to working with each of you to making this happen! I love tasteful, custom mods.

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
So I think the front side marker lenses are the same for camaros/birds. Are the rears the same?
#15
Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
Camaros don't have rear side markers like birds do. They have the tail lights around the corner for that.
I would take the front markers with the same tint as the rears, just in amber instead of red, btw.
Edit:
Here's an example of the OEM tint I'm looking for on my side markers.

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
Are you saying he is making the rear markers (see picture) for the Camaro's for $45?! If so give me contact info, or if you are just talking about the side markers on the Fbird ask him about the rear camaro grid lenses please.

You have be confused. You want the front and the rear side markers in tinted amber, correct? You want it as dark as the red is in the photo you provided? I can pass that info on to the seller. Do you know what % tint it is?

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
He offers that piece, but I don;t know how much it costs. The pictures I provided were for sample colors you can get the side markers in. I will ask how much it costs.

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
Hey Bill,
I'll clarify this a bit
In the pic you can see which tail lights I have. They are factory tinted to a certain degree, but I wouldn't know by how much. Should be about the degree I marked on the pic you initially posted (and I reposted).
I would like to have:
- A set of front markers, AMBER, tinted by the amount I circled in the first pic (if you don't have my sort of tail lights for reference).
- A set of rear side markers, tinted by the circled amount, but in RED.
In other words: It's supposed to look stock, just darker

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
GRRRR, turns out US vehicles are supposed to have red side markers in the back and amber side markers in the front. (I think European vehicles have amber in the front and back.) I really wanted amber front and rear! I hate the way red looks on my car.
I even tried seeing if I could put the amber lenses on the back, but then use a different color bulb so the colors would mix to get red. The problem is, red is a primary color. So, you can't mix any colors together to get red!
-sigh- Smoked red it is.

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
I would ask around your area and see how strict the cops are on this. Unless you are in a real rural area where they really have nothing better to do I would doubt you'll get pulled over for this.

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
Btw: Are you noting which type of vehicle we need our side markers for?
Mine's a Firebird btw.
In regard to F-bodies in Europe: They have been lobotomized during the old import days.
Front side markers were reduced to their indicator function and did not light up as parking lights.
The rear side markers continued to function as usual and remained red.
Front turn signals were also reduced to indicators and the cars were sodomized to make this happen. Especially the last Firebird facelift.
They sprayed the original lamp housings black, punched a hole into them for new wiring and pinned orange tractor turn signal casings for single wire bulbs onto them. Thumbs up for German customs -.-

Camaros don't have rear side markers. Firebirds and Camaros have the same front side markers. Therefore, if you're getting rears, you have a Firebird! If you're getting fronts, they should be identical. But, I will make the note. Thank you for bringing that to my attention. We still need one more buyer!
P.S. I'm literally on the other side of the world from my firebird right now. I know the rear side markers use a rubber gasket. Would someone please check to see if the front markers also use a gasket?

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
Guys,
I recently returned from the middle east. I'm sorry I've been out of touch.
Twin Turbo, if you want to order the camaro tails, contact Jason directly. I'll PM you his email address.
Gents, here's the deal. You can go ahead and order the rear firebird side marker lenses now. The seller needs a commitment from 5 of us to start production on the front side marker lenses.
http://klearz.com/pontiac.html
Here's the website to commit to buy.
Thanks! Please let me know after you've committed, so I know when we've had 5 guys sign up.

Re: Custom Side Marker Lights!
I have a question that's only halfway off-topic, sorry, but not completely off-topic.
Since you have the manufacturer's attention, what's the possibility of reproducing the dome light lens in the clear prismatic lens material like you're showing for these marker lenses?
All cars today have clear prismatic dome light lenses. They look so much nicer than a 3rdgen's dull opaque yellowish-white stock dome lens. And for switching to LED interior lighting, a clear prismatic lens lets LED light "glow" like it's suppose to, unlike being dulled-down by the ugly stock lens.
This topic has come up a couple of times in the past, but with no resolution. So it's something people are interested in. So it would be interesting to see if your manufacturer could/would do it.
Thanks. And again, sorry for straying...
