Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
Just remember it's more than just taking them off and calling it a day. You'll need a new nose, new rear bumper, and the holes from the rockers to be filled and it all painted...

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
I know this is a stupid point, but SC's are so cheap, why not just buy one and build it like you want? Either way you are gonna spend good money, so why mess with a perfectly good Iroc? (Coming from a guy that took a SC and made a 92 Z tribute out of it) LOL

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
i agree
but i look at it like this it would take too much work to make a fully restored iroc back to original and i had no intentions of keeping it original and its just bumper and removing gfx filling holes etc sould be just as easy to go back if i wanted to
Is it perfectly good Iroc .. Yes it is
would it be fully restored to stock probably not in my life time
if i wanted to keep it stock i would of found a good canidate aka iroc and fully restore i would love to have a original iroc one day but not now
if i was to buy another project it would be a thirdgen formula and wife would kill me if i brought on another project im still not done with my irocz and im do to PCS soon so that would be a pain
also SC maybe easy to find for you but out in Cali i havent seen maybe a handful in the past year

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
I hear ya. Believe me, I'm for anyone doing what ever they want with their car. (unless it's rare). There's not much original to my car either so I say make it like you want it. It would definately be an "out of the norm" modification.

There are very few sport coupes I like. If done right they look mean as hell. But I wouldn't go through all the work to convert it. Your car looks great as an Iroc.

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
lol thanks on the complement but too me its far from done and not 100% happy with it
but i do like the challenge and it would be rewarding to create a mean sportcoupe
it alot of work doing anything to a thirdgen even changing the brake booster is a pain lol
i also think that majority would rather fix up gfx car than non gfx due to the fact there are so few sportcoupe guys modding theres to the extent of gfx guys so its natural for gfx to be more popular

ive been thinking about it for awhile now a year or so putting together different ideas so this is no hasty decison lol been meaing to sketch some renderings i wish i new how to play with photo shop better lol
i might do it unsure yet im changing duty stations and might be staying on base so we will have to see and in mist of drivetrain upgrades and wife pregant with first child ...so when i settle down at new command exterior would prob be next just too much going on to focus on it

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
What would be so hard about getting your IROC back to stock? I'd just wait, save up and buy a sports coupe and have both, but it's your car man. Whatever you do, I agree they can look good.
Very few S/C's are pulled off properly and I pretty much hate wagon wheels on everything, but somehow this dude managed to do both.

stock i mean fully restored back to stock ...not putting stock springs and wheels and call it stock ill just go on craigslist to a buy a stock one lol
saving up is not the issue.... its just i get a idea in my head then i just want try it out if it doesnt work out then back to drawing board
yes it would be easier to just get s/c
and like i posted before i been thinking about it for awhile i havent made a decision to go ahead to do it just been thinking about it and thought i would make a thread on what i was thinking about and i wont do it if it wont turn out right
but its not like i cant throw back on the gfx if it doesnst turn out right lol
nothing i would try would be permanent unless it looks good like trying the bumber on and getting the stance right etc etc

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
I think that you should do it! I am a huge SC fan even though my current corral doesn't really show it lol. I think that if your on a fence at all about the look that you should spend a couple hundred bucks and have someone do a rendering of the look your going for. Maybe good money spent if you decide that its NOT actually where you want to go. Get the ultra low stance set, and your front bumper mods done, remove your GFX and bolt the bumpers on before you start welding up all the holes... then you really can go back if needed.
You might think about just selling your IROC and picking up a old grandma SC and finishing your swap into the SC to save some body work. Might make enough money to help fund better parts in other areas... Coil over kit it will need to ride right
I really need to scan old pics... I deleted the 3 nose holes on my old sc, and it looked great even just in primer and guide coat.

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
thats a good idea on the rendering part im search it up online
me to i love SC and firebird formulas
it will be a mean low stance
Wheels and stance make or break a SC its so simple but majority people dont do it right
this is exactly what im thinking lol if i dont like ill just return back
"and your front bumper mods done, remove your GFX and bolt the bumpers on before you start welding up all the holes... then you really can go back if needed"
your right i just dont see myself selling it anytime soon tho lol
i guess if the offer right this is and will be my daily driver
no garge/trailer queen as it was before before i blew 700r4

i know i will stir up peoples emotions creating Iroc-Z/SportCoupe

It's your car and money so do what you want, but IMO the GFX cars look 1000 times better. Would I take an SC for the right price-sure, but I would never make my car into one. I vote keep the IROC an IROC and pick up a SC or Berley and go from there.

Why not use the wheels you got? I think those would look pretty mean on there. Not saying the ones on the GTR wouldn't look better, but they look like your gonna need to start sell organs to pay for them.

I like most everything about the orange camaro except the wheels and the 3slots in the upper center of the bumper, now the lower part of the front bumper looks super slick. If you could add that slick lower to the non-slotted IROC bumper cover support you'd have a winner.

the Irocs Bumpper looks like its angled more out
and
sport coupe is Angled more in
if that makes Since ???

It's your car do what you want. I like the clean look of a sport coupe, I know I'm a little biased...Where I live when I see another 3rd gen its usually a Z28(or Iroc) or sometimes an RS hardly ever a sport coupe.

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
i agree .. the few the proud
its all about stance and wheels its a simple, yet mean look
im thinking keeping iroc bumper with custom chin spoiler to blend with the sportcoupe body something different with the right stance
i showed the wife a few ideas and she loved it also
i cant wait to start on it

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
I love everything about it! I really like the subtle mods to the front bumper, and I actually like the three slots in the bumper (I may be a bit biased there though). Like many have said, to make a sport coupe look mean, the stance is very important.

I feel so special that you used my pic to do that... I love the sc's but i have a few thoughts.... 1, as previously mentioned, most sc's are just plain out destroyed. nobody cared about them when they were new so most were just driven to death. 2, the gfx cars were usually much better cared for and therefore usually found in better shape.
My thoughts on it.... If your car is to far gone to restore it back to stock reasonably then go for it. Otherwise look for a good condition SC or an RS and go from there....

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
the only problem i have with this is that 1990 was a half production year, and the last year for the IROC (nobody's mentioned this yet, i'm surprised). if i had a 1990 white iroc, i'd probably leave it alone.
what color stripe package does yours have? if it's the grey and yellow, i'll reach all the way across from GA and pimp slap you if you do an SC clone with it.

90 model year was the lowest production year out of all the years also
it was the last year of the iroc
when i got car there was no stripes on only the door decal which was grey
ill have to double check rpo codes, paint is original, 1990 also had the yellow dash emblem also only for the 90 year
original engine was l98 also
what makes the silver/yellow strips so special ? Im not too knowledgable when it comes to decals

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
my car is also a 1990, but was a 3.1RS with a billion miles on it, and was ragged to crap. i picked it up sitting on blocks in front of a single-wide. the gfx were hammered and the bumpers tattered. i had a good condition set of 87 sc bumpers, already, and that's what made my decision.
it will be quazi-permanent. you have to drill out spot welds to get the rocker gfx bracket off.

Re: Hmmm Thinking of deleting my GFX
white with grey/yellow stripes was one of the lowest produced color combos on one of the lowest produced models (only available 89-90 i believe) and one of the best looking in my opinion.

yea i had no stripes on camaro maybe they took them off who knows lol
only rpo code i found was 86A which IIRC is for all stripe colors
i actually like the yellow stripe just seen some pics think would look good with matching brake brembo cailpers and gunmetal wheels hmmmm think out loud
