1986 Iroc-Z Restoration (VANCOUVER BC) - PIC HEAVY
Hey Everyone,
just wanted to share some pics of my 86 iroc and its slow and gradual restoration. Matching numbers, 305 tpi. The reason I bought this car as my first is because my pops had an 89 Iroc convertible in the same white exterior but grey interior. He bought it brand new and drove it in his early 20s. Sold it when I was born so another reason for the restoration is so he can enjoy the ride as well!!
A little background:
I purchased the car off the original owner back in 2012 and it had roughly 170,000km. Car was in decent shape, and I could not say no for 3k. The big thing in Vancouver Canada is that there is lots of exposure to rain, and therefore rust is always the biggest issue. When I purchased the car, as my first car and university ride, it had little to no rust (maybe some surface spots). However, I drove it for the first two years of uni and then parked the car from 2014-2019. Although garaged, this is when the rust started to hit bad and now I decided it was either time to deal with it, or let it trash. Obviously I do not want to break the bank with this, but also do not want a Maaco job.
It is my first car and I would love to keep it for as long as possible!!!
Decided to start with a tune up of the motor, exhaust, and then get rid of those rust spots. Main spot of rust was under the hood and the wheel wells. I wanted to ensure the strut towers were as sound as possible, as the rust was eating through them. Luckily, lots of it was surface
After the exterior is painted A96 BMW Mineral White (pearly white), my focus for 2021 is the interior. Most likely leather seats from lethal interior, new carpets, headliner, etc. I would like the look to be as original as possible but lethal interior seats are so nice. Also, luckily, the interior is rust free, which was my biggest fear, especially the floor pans on the passenger side.
Car has 18" iroc replicas along with a drop with sport springs. Flowmaster exhaust, no res.
We are almost done the paint job so I started this thread a little late, but hope you enjoy the progress!!

Some pics of when I bought it in 2012 and the most recent pic in 2019 next to my BMW M4. The 2019 pic is heavily edited to make the dull, yellow white actually look white.
Interior when I bought it was mint. Still is but steering wheel needs work and seats are fading/showing its age. Getting the windshield replaced and the Ttops restored.

Assembled pics!! I wanted to ensure they align the hood so that there is as minimum of a gap as possible!! Very happy with the results. some sanding and then polishing and we are almost done!!!

Got all new emblems, all new weatherstrip (whole car, including TTops), new decals and new iroc-z stickers. The only thing I opted to leave out is the stripes. I think I like the cleaner look. We will see, may add it in the future.
I plan to drive this car maybe 2 months out of the year, so I am excited for this to finish!!! Will get the rims put on this week and have the car fully complete within 2 weeks!!
