New 1983 Camaro Z28

Hey everyone, I am new to this forum and new to Camaro's. I recently purchased a 1983 Camaro Z28 (305ci LG4/700R4 auto trans) for $850. As expected it is not in the greatest condition; the power steering does not work (I have no idea why, the pump leaks a small amount but when filled there is still no power steeering), the tires are mismatched (235/60R15 front, 255/60R15 rear driver, 215/70R15 rear pass), the driver door hinge is broken and the door drops when opened, the locks where you would insert the key to open doors/trunk are missing, the driver door panel is missing, the power window motors are fried, the power locks only work by repeatedly pressing the lock/unlock buttons, there is a problem with the transmission shift linkage where the shifter becomes stuck in first or second gear and won't shift back up again, the rotors are fairly grooved, one of the front pass lug studs is broken off, there is a fuel smell when the car runs, the car idles high at about 1600rpm neutral and 1100rpm in gear at a stop, the air conditioner has been removed, there are several vacuum line ports which have been plugged on the carburetor, there seem to be missing emission components.

Other than these issues the car runs and drives fine, it starts right up and has good power, shifts into all gears fine, brakes fine, there are no overheating issues, all lights work etc etc.

I am just wondering if anyone has any advice for me, I would like to fix up this Camaro and have a nice ride but I need some help I am not sure where to begin

Welcome to TGO. Fixing your powersteering would be a good place to start. After that I would move on to your brakes and tires. Your fuel smell and idle problems could be from a carb that needs to be tuned.

Car: 88' IROC Z.
Engine: 305 TBI.
Transmission: T-5 5 Speed manual.
Axle/Gears: Stock 3.08's I suspect.
I have a similar issue with my power locks. I have to push the button a few times to get it to lock. Is this meant to be a project, or a DD? If it is to be driven immediately, Id start with your idle and fuel problems. Try to find a set of matching tires, perhaps used from a smaller tire place if you're strapped for cash. The power steering would also be an issue to look at ASAP.
