Washington to end emissions testing

Washington to end emissions testing
Saw this on the news today, we are ending emissions testing by 2020.

Island County and Northern Snohomish county already don't have testing, but this removes all fear for me that it would ever come to my area.
Thoughts on this?

No way! That's awsome. Probably not good for the environment but great for anyone who don't have a prius. My friends 97 Murcurey cant even pass emmisions tests.

Re: Washington to end emissions testing
Here in Massachusetts anything 95 and older doesnt have to have an emission test done. All cars I've owned since then have been older which makes inspections a piece of cake. I think the whole emissions thing is stupid. Just there to please them tree huggers. Oh, and global warming?? I don't believe it.

The air up there is uncomparably fresh, especially with that complete lack of humidity.

I follow A LOT of local politics, and I find this too good to be true. I amsure there will be some trade off or something.

From KOMO News in Seattle
http://www.komonews.com/news/local/128149553.html
I've been in Kitsap County since I've been stationed here in the Navy on and off since 1985, retired here in 1999. Kitsap has been a non-emissions county, so I've been pretty lucky.
EDIT: I didn't notice I posted the same link to the story as AmorgetRS did.
When I saw the story, they also said that 2009 and newer vehicles will be exempt when the "phases" start.
SEATTLE (AP) - Washington state is getting out of the business of testing vehicle emissions.
The Ecology Department says that by 2020 it will stop requiring the tests. John Raymond, who's worked on the state's emissions program since it began in 1981, says that Washington's air quality has improved a lot since then, and vehicles are much cleaner than they used to be.
Drivers will be spared the $15 fee that comes with the testing. About 1 million vehicles are tested each year in the state's five most populous counties, including King, Pierce and Snohomish.
Emissions testing will end in phases. Drivers will know they're off the hook when they stop getting notices in the mail.

However, that is my logical explanation... and NOTHING the government does is logical.

Re: Washington to end emissions testing
Where we live we don't have to take emission tests on any of our vehicles, which is great. But it will be even better to end them for everyone.
