new to vancouver / portland looking for 3rd gen friends

i moved to the area for work. my first project (ironically) was setting up a manufacturing cell to produce fuel sender for 4th gen F-body GM products. i wasent sure if i would move to the area permently so i got an apartment. im going stir crazy because i havent gotten to wrench on a car in almost a month. i always wanted a 91 firebird, i finally found an affordable one but its got that damn v6 in it which must go. enough about me, im looking for cool frends preferably f body people. im "good people" but at 28 its a little hard to find cool people to hang with.

Lots of cool people here in the Northwest, and several car clubs to choose from. I'm a couple hours north of Vancouver, but have attended several 3rd gen gatherings in the Vancouver/Portland area. Even some events at PIR, though I've only run the strip once with a bone stock 305 TBI.

There are a lot of Portland/Couve guys around. There are actualy a bunch of us in our mid-late 20's also. Some advice though, it might be worth it to just keep an eye out for a V8 car, with the prices what they are, it might be easier to just buy a nice V8 and then go from there.

Are you in vancouver, or P-town? Also, if you are very very new to the area, and want to go see some of the local attractions, and outdoorsy stuff, etc, let us know, we are always glad to show new people around our wonderful city!!!

Re: new to vancouver / portland looking for 3rd gen friends

I'm an old greybeard gearhead from the Seattle/Kent area (transplant). Just for giggles I picked up a plain '83 305 with 67,000 miles and beat paint just to play with.
So far I've found a couple of roadblocks to old- school hotrodding with this car. Like the front subframe rails angling in towards the driveshaft tunnel right where you need your long tube header collectors to pass through, and the lack of room for mufflers under the floorboards (I hate 2- into one systems, I just gotta find a way to run twice pipes and a "X" connector). Argggghhhh!
And the torque tube- housing mount rear end that keeps you from just swapping out an earlier, stronger rear end.
Oh well, it handles nice and I'm learning more about it and having fun. Just picked up some power doors, wiring harnesses, springs, steering box, frame stiffeners and sway bars out of a buddy's wrecked IROC, and another Z28 parts car for the wheels, nosepiece and ground effects. I've got a few ideas for cheap engine upgrades for the smoggy, doggy 305 like 1.6 ratio rockers and headers, intake air cleaner, yadda, yadda. Should be fun!
