What's up fellow Oregonians? I live in Gresham. My '85 Trans Am is waiting for a new battery, power steering pump, and a rebuilt carb so it can awaken from being in storage for over 2 years.
Some of you cascade crew guys may remember my '72 Chevy short bed pickup from the dyno day at McGee's a few years back. It was silver with black hockey stick stripes and a cowl hood.

Hav'nt posted here for a while how did the summer go for you guys? I did not finish my hot rod this year maybe next year. I am going racing none the less. The fuel prices and a new ruling on child support put me in the rears on race car project LOL. Oh well thread died out so I thought I would try and spark it up again. any takers?

Re: Oregon! shout out Where ya at what do ya drive?
I'm in Hood River, OR. Posted here some time ago. I don't drive a Third Gen, but I have a couple Troopers with a 60-Degree V6s. One is a stock 2.8L, the other is an upgraded 3.4L.
I took my 3.4 at the end of the winter and still haven't gotten it back together. Should be pretty awesome when it's back though. I've been working on it again, with a little change in direction. I've installed a Crane 260 cam and 1.6 ratio rockers. Now I'm in the process of undoing my work and reinstalling the original (but bored out) TBI system. Won't be quite as novel as having multiport in an old Isuzu Trooper, but I should strangle pretty much the same amount of power out of it.

Re: Oregon! shout out Where ya at what do ya drive?
Again, I don't have a Third Gen, but a distant Japanese cousin with a GM engine.
I've been thinking about new paint too. I'm putting louvers in the hood so that will need re-painted anyway. Doing louvers to lower under-hood temps since I have my filter housing hacked down to an open-element now.
I have everything back together with TBI, been hitting up TGO for TBI tuning tips lately. Have it running pretty well now, driving it as my daily so I can find and address the remaining bugs.
In other news, I've upgraded my other car from a 1981 Isuzu I-Mark LS Diesel to a 1999 BMW 328i.
Some pics!:
My engine fresh and clean:
My engine now. :/
RunCool Louvers to be tig'd into the hood:
Chipped ECU, finally back in the stock location:

Re: Oregon! shout out Where ya at what do ya drive?
Very nice! I've seen some people asking a lot of money for third gens lately. Tho I paid $1500 for mine in '99, running and driving, so $3k for a non running car seems like a lot to me. lol
I'm gonna try and cruise out to Sonic and see my sister a few times over the next couple months before it starts raining too much. I'll post on here when that might be and maybe we can get a few people to roll out.

Re: Oregon! shout out Where ya at what do ya drive?
I bought my 92 RS a little over a month ago for 1500 off a car lot although not a fancy car. I had been looking for awhile 2 or 3 months, my camaro had been on the lot 2 months before I bought. I guess it is the economy but a lot of the other cars I had looked at are still for sale after this long I am suprised. I am thinking about getting another third gen for the track so I hope the prices don't go up! I suppose it could be that I always look for the cheap deal and a lot of the cars I look at are more of a rolling pile of beat to death parts, but it is still sad to see them after they end up in a wrecking yard (unless they have the good parts)

Re: Oregon! shout out Where ya at what do ya drive?
Newbie here in Eugene. Sportin a 91 rs. A ride I have had for some time now.
I got it for $400 6 years ago. Let my Son drive it for about a year and a half. His first car. He had issues with it and gave up on it.
Saw some serious maintenance woes. I have it back now. I gotta say This Is a nice ride.
I loved driving it and I will again. Plans' ? Hmm well ?? I have been eyeballing the hybrid postings.
I wont entertain the idea of dropping a 8 in her. I like my 6. Plus I am enjoying the build.
Anyone in the area ?
Fixes and Mods
replaced Idle control motor (ICM)
TPS
re-installed 02 sensor
re-set timing back to factory 10*
re-installed air intake duct (was missing )
patched together a "severely" botched exhaust (cat was cleared out and then looks like the rest must have high centered or struck something?
fixed short in the steering column
found a nice aftermarket rear sway bar. planning on installing soon.
took out sagging headliner
Issues and problems
Someone drilled out the idle adjustment cap and has been messing with the factory setting. (looks like they bent the strike plate for it also)
factory tachometer is faulty ( it works it just reads 6200 @ low dle of 700 (from hand
held )
surging idle seems much better now that timing has been adjusted.
engine stalls under load. It ran but still stalled and or overheated at stop signs until I ajusted the timing. Now It wont drive unless in re-learn mode. in re learn mode it runs like a beast. good throttle response ,nice ildle, clean acceleration/deceleration. But as soon as 20 min are up she stalls and wont run under load until I unhook the battery wait for a few min then hook up and go.
I have read most of the boards here regarding tuneups and repairs. I am used to old time tuning. Not this electronic witchcraft. So I get a lil lost at times.
Anyone have an idea where to start?

Was noticing not too much going on in here from Oregon. Where ya at what do ya drive? Any auto cross or solo scca drivers and pics of car? Drag racers? Cruisers........... We have a great cruise here in July....... Some extra late nite Racing now and then (I do not partake in street racing). Lets let them know there are a few Gen 3's in the area!

Umm not really they dont like to but you might be able to do the open drifts. I dont have my camaro anymore though but after ait i plan on buying another 3rd gen just for drift. the new events start after march i believe! Here's the forums for event listing's cost and schedule, tougenw.com is the forums and tougenw.org is just for events I believe!

Wow! A year without posts?!
I'm 16 and live in Grants Pass! Finally a forum with people in my area
I got an 89 2.8 5spd ttop firebird for free back n september. Funny thing is, it turned out to be my dream 3rd gen I fell in love with an original 2.8l 89 red/silver Formula with gray int., ttops, and an auto that my dad repainted. The only differnce on my car is that it isn't a formula and has a 5spd. But my car is a total basket case
