Simply put it means the database and the board software are having another lovers quarrel so the DB went on strike.
Happens alot for some reason, I think it's because of the board software version we use. Too bad it's not compatible with any other version from what I understand. I might take some time one day and try to play with an old copy of the DB and see if I can beat the newer version of the board into working with the DB.

why don't you guys try what I suggested the last few times it happened and try out ikonboard?
as far as I know it still allows for swapping the DB's between phpbb, etc.
just a thought though since phpbb never seems to be reliable on dsl connections and ikonboard seems to do fine
