1/4 mile times for LO3
I was was just wondering what would a 1990 firebird with an LO3 with an auto run in the 1/4 mile and maybe even 0-60 mph times. any info is great. I'm planning on buying this car and I know they are slow but I wonder how slow. It didn't seem much faster then my 86 2.8 with an 5-speed. But I think thats b/c of the 5-speed

Car: 91 RS
Engine: 350 TBI
Transmission: 700R4
Well I have a 91' RS w/ the LO3 and the numbers from car and driver that year state:
0-60 mph= 7.9 sec
1/4 mile = 15.9 sec @ 85 mph
Now I don't know if that's with an auto or stick??? But these are the numbers I was given from another source, which states he got them from Car and Driver.......I'ld say they sound about right. The engine makes up a lot of ground with those 2.73 gears.

The first time i ever actually raced at a track was in my car this summer. We drove 95 miles to the track after work (its the closest one!!), only had 20 minutes to let the cars cool, and only got 3 passes in before having to go home. If i'd known there were gonna be so few people there that the track would close early I'd stay home and go another night. The other problem with this track besides the fact that its very slightly uphill is that you CAN"T GET AROUND THE WATER! You HAVE to drive through it. So that means i had to keeps doing quick burnouts to clean the f'n water off my tires that shouda never beenthere in the first place. So anyway, I made 3 passes, and my best was 16.8. That was with my old goodyear regatta POS tires on there too, my first pass i spun almost clear to the '60 and the best i could to was a 2.35 '60 and a 16.8 @ 81 MPH. Thats pretty sorry, but keep in mind 1. I'd never raced before. 2. Hot, oil burning, 125,000 (at the time) mile engine and transmission 3. crappy tires 4. engine is weak, like more than it should be.
I do wonder about this track sometimes. This guy i know got a best of 13.8 in a LS1 6-speed car, all stock, and he's a really good driver. Most LT1 cars up there run high 14s, and I've seen a late 80s mustang GT break into the 16s. Probably an auto but still shouldn't be that slow.

if LT1's are running mid to high 14's near you, that means you prolly have nt so good air. most LO3's will run between 15.9 adn 16.2 in good air, in bad air (altitude, temp, humidity) i have seen them go into the low 17's.
everyone should just move to jersey, all of our tracks are relatively close to sea level

Yeah I forgot to mention humidity. July in Illinois is humid as hell, especially considering the track is less than half a mile from the mississippi river. The elevation probably isn't that high since its so close to the water, but its definately not sea level.
BTW - I did make (hate to admit this) a run that was 17.14@81 MPH. That was my worst one. But hey remember now before that night I'd never ever driven at a track before.
